Pioneer SX1500TD Fixer Upper

Hello everyone! I apologize in advance for this book of a post, but I want to be incredibly specific in hopes that you guys will not have to ask a million questions before being able to understand my predicament.

I purchased a Pioneer SX1500TD from a local thrift store recently for $5. It is in fantastic cosmetic condition and mostly works! The man at the store told me the right channel wasn't working, so I opened it up and saw that one of the fuses on the main amp board was blown, replaced it, and ta-da! It worked! Yay! Right?

The other problem was that the left and right channels had a bit of humming in them, as well as some high frequency noise on the left channel. I once again opened up the contraption (the bottom panel) and noticed there were 2 white wires on the end of the main amp board (labeled as 'TP1' and what I'm assuming is 'TP2' on the other side, couldn't really see any markings on the board or the diagram for it).

One was touching the metal framing while the other was not. So, I naively thought to myself, "I'll just make the other one touch the framing, and turn it on!" Well. That was a huge mistake.... soon as I switched the power on the board caught fire near the middle and burned up some resistors. I was able to cut the power swiftly and stop the flame from getting any bigger, but it seems to have done some damage (this is what happens when you don't properly research things). I poked around on the forums a bit and saw someone mention that these wires might be something called an 'idle wire'? I could have horribly misinterpreted that whole thread so I am not sure. Needless to say, neither of the wires are touching the metal framing and are currently just floating in the little free space between the main amp board and the metal framing.

Ok, so now I have some burnt resistors that look like they should be replaced. Here are some photos.

(This resistor is underneath the C17 Mylar capacitor [0.022] on the main amp board):

(These resistors are located to the left of the 2A 250V fuses *if you are looking at the board with the board#W23-002-0 in the upside-down position, this is how I took the photo sorry if that is confusing*):

The resistors shown above are:
(1) R25 - Carbon Film - 150
(2) R23 - Carbon Film - 10
(3) R13 - Carbon Film - 2.7k

My questions on this resistor replacement matter are:
(1) Should I try and find the same model resistors to replace these or are there higher quality versions I could purchase?
(2) Where is a good source for these resistors?
(3) Any tips on the actual task of replacing them?

I have to say, the diagrams I found for this SX1500TD online are not quite the same as what I have in the unit. For example, on my main amp board in the unit, the fuses are labeled as "2A". On the diagram, they are labeled as "3A". The only other difference I could really tell was that the "out2" hole on my main amp board is not listed on the diagram. That seems minor, but worth mentioning. Here is a picture.

I am going to stop here, but I also have questions about the capacitors. I do want to replace all of them as some are leaking (the ones on the power supply unit #W16-026). I figure this is a little much for one post so I'll get to that later. Thanks for reading all of this. Any/all help is invaluable to me.

It is an awesome piece. My roommate and I purchased some old Bose 501 series II speakers along with this receiver and they sound faaantastic with it. We are currently using a digital insignia receiver given to us for free as a temporary replacement and it just doesn't have the same kick :l I can't wait to get this thing at 100%. I read through a lot of your posts about your restoration project and learned quite a bit! This is the first receiver I have ever tried to revive, so it is definitely a challenge.
 
The white wires are test point leads.
They should not touch anything.
They are originally taped down to the capacitors with no bare wire exposed.

Since you grounded them, I imagine you tore the hell out of the amp and all transistors, capacitors, diodes, bias diodes, resisters need to be checked. Just replace all the electrolytic caps. The ceramic should have survived.

I imagine you see glue on the power supply around the caps and think they are leaking. That is not what it means for caps to leak. It's very rare to actually see any liquid type leak. They leak DC voltage when getting bad.

Feel free to replace all electrolytic capacitors you want, it never hurts and is appropriate for the age of the unit.

Those units are not simple to repair and can be a bear. There is another fellow struggling with one in a recent thread.

Blhagstrom along with Mr Hall know these quite well and are a great help. I'm in the process of setting the offset and bias.
The dial indicator is dragging after replacing the bulb and is driving me batty!

Thanks for the advice. After the incident I tested it to see what the damage was, and surprisingly the receiver still transmits audio although now the right channel sounds very scratchy. When you say "need to be checked", is there a specific kind of test I should be using? This is more of a weekend project for me, so no rush on anything over here. Just want to take my time and do it right.
 
Static is frustrating! Lol
Ok remove the bottom plate and as suggested clean/lube each pot and switch(with the power off and unplugged). Work them back and forth/in and out 50 times each.(might have to do it several times)
If that doesn't fix it then it's time to do some testing.
My dad's right channel had static and rice Krispies.
It was driver transistors in the preamp and a output going out.
