Pioneer Timers

I have a DT-510 and DT-540 that both work great. The DT-5, however, doesn't keep accurate time at all. I've tried setting to time adjust, etc, no luck. Voltage selector set to 120v, along with the others.
 
I have the DT-5 as well. At first I thought it had a problem because it would not keep the proper time. Then I realized that there is a 50/60Hz selector on the bottom at the right front. Changing it to 60Hz solved the problem.

The issues with them running ahead of time, I believe, are due to the 60/50hz switches. Deoxit didn't seem to help, but if you desolder the switch, it actually corrects the problem.

Just now, I had desoldered the switch, and it's actually going at the right speed. :D

When it was in 60hz position, my meter read around 998 ohms on the side for 50hz, but when the switch is on 50hz, it is 0. So I think even with what little signal is let through, the clock was thinking it was set to 50hz.

I guess if you wanted to, you could replace the whole switch, but as for me, I plan to leave it desoldered. :yes:
 
My DT-510 must be pure Americanized. There's no voltage or Hz switch. The lettering on the back even says "120v 60hz".

Btw: Its definitely a flourescent display. (No LED's) It also keeps amazing time. Every so often, I let my computer use one of those time-sync things to reset itself. It always catches up to what the Pioneer was to begin with. Even after a year or more. Amazing!

Is that still working? I tried desoldering the switch (yes its been dexoited to death) and worked well for 2hrs and then it started to jump ahead again. Back to the drawing board.
 
Does anyone know where to get a schematic for a DT-510 or 500? I have a DT-510 that has an interesting issue. Intermittently when the minute advances so will the ten minute. For example the time will track 1:01 1:02 1:03 1:14 1:15 1:16 1:17 1:18 1:29. The 50/60 switch is not the problem. I'm guessing it's the IC under the display that has the issue, but want to see a schematic before I delve that deep into it.

Thanks Hoodcom for the suggestion on removing the 50/60 Hz switch. I have a Pioneer DT32 (very similar to other models) that was running fast. Deoxit didn't help. I removed the switch, and now the unit keeps perfect time. Interesting though that the switch tests fine out of the circuity!

My system is all silver and this guy sticks out like a sore thumb and it's not helping my OCD
 
Interested to know why you use these devices, is it mostly for the clock? So, if you had the clock built into one of your other devices, (receiver/tuner/amp) then you would not need it anymore?

Might be the switch matrix, usually it is a scanned keyboard, to save on ic pins to the switches. through a scope on it and watch it in action.

Hi, I stumbled across this thread when I was looking for information about my timer. I have the Pioneer DT-530 (Black with silver) and is has a problem but I can't find the solution. The clock is almost always showing minutes and seconds in stead of hours and minutes. No matter how the rotaryswitch is turned. Other positions of the switch work fine. Sometimes it shows the correct time (hours and minutes) and the again minutes and seconds. I tried resoldering all of the contacts of the rotaryswitch but the problem stays. I also tried contactspray (= deoxit but then in Europe) but that didn't fix the problem either.
If anyone has a (or THE) solution I will be very happy!

Hello, I recently went to move my Pioneer DT-555 and the voltage selector popped off. I think my kids tripped the cord and made it fall.
Have you ever had heard of the voltage selector just popping off?
Getting a replacement?
There should be some sort of metal on that rotator? I cant find any of the clips.

I'll bring an old thread back to life. I have three Pioneer timers, (DT-5, DT-500, & DT-540) all of them 110/120/220/240v switchable. My DT-500 stopped working a couple of weeks ago after a lightning strike in my neighborhood. The lights in my house flickered for a few seconds then the electricity went out and came back on a few seconds later. The DT-500 has not been keeping accurate time since then. Interesting that the DT-540 in my downstairs stereo system had no issues. Yesterday I drove 60 miles one way to buy a DT-5 for $20 off of Facebook Marketplace to replace the DT-500. It's hard for me to justify spending money to fix the DT-500 when I routinely see Pioneer timers for cheap on Craigslist and FB Marketplace. I do admit that I like the blue DT-500 LED time display much more than the green display of the DT-5 and DT-540. I'm the original owner of a Kenwood AT-80D timer that I bought new at an air base BX in Germany in 1981. Six months ago, it started jumping hours ahead in time. I would like to fix it for sentimental reasons but I'm ready to declare time of death on it since a service manual for this timer does not exist. I did an extensive on line search for one and even contacted Kenwood USA and no luck.
