Based on my experience I can attest that a better base does make a sonic difference with a Dual. I replaced the faux wood plastic base of my 1249 with an original solid wood base from a 1219 Mark I, which I found at a thrift along with a beyond help 1219. I parted out the dead 1219 and refurbished the wood base and put the 1249 at home there. It now looks much better and sounds more pleasing, especially after I applied a little Dynamat to the inside.
