Political Correctness

In the government's eyes, my wife already owns half my gear, so I guess one could say she's just as much a vintage stereo nut as I. :D

I can say that my wife doesn't know or care how many watts the rig pumps, what kind or how large the speakers are that it pumps-or even the make... but she DOES like how it sounds when she turns the DVD player on and that's OK with me! (and she knows how to work it too!:thmbsp: )

I didn't say, nor did I intend to imply, anything about whether women SHOULD be here. Just that it seems like they're NOT. Just the facts, man. Or Ma'am.

I just thought it was an interesting phenomenon so I thought I'd throw it out there, and also wondered if my observation was even correct in the first place.

Also, I think Andyman nailed it.

By the way my wife has become interested in football since marrying me, which is awesome!! But she has no clue what I see in old stereos.

So...the main point I'm getting from all this is maybe this site isn't my best option for online dating? :scratch2:

Depends on your preferred orientation, I guess.

Though I think there's better venues out there than looking a mate of same or different sex than an audio site.

No sweat. Yes, it's a very small minority of the fairer sex here. Glad for some of the contributions from them. One really knows lots about the vinyl aspect of the hobby, it seems.

My wife uses one of the spare bedrooms here as her "womancave".

For tunes she has a vintage system with a Luxman R1120A receiver, a/d/s P4 turntable, a/d/s CD3 CD player, a/d/s C3 cassette deck and a pair of a/d/s L980 speakers. She likes it a lot, not to the point of becoming an AK member. :smoke: She also puts up with the vintage and newer equipment that's all over this place.

I'm lucky to have her in my life.

Best,

Paul :thmbsp:

Hope to see her again at the local AK fest. The female contingent seemed to have a swell time at Markus' place last year!

I got a message recently from a guy saying, "We're all brothers in the vintage hi-fi world", and that got me thinking: Has anyone noticed how this is sort of one of the last male-only clubs? (Or are there actually women involved in this forum?)

The political correctness police try to make men and women the same: For example by law, they force universities to support women's sports with the same budget as men's; they teach boys how to sew in school, etc. But vintage stereo is another one of those cases where men just dig something, and women just aren't into it, and there's nothing you can do about it.

OH,BOY!! don't even get me started on this topic!! these days, women, by and large, are in such a hurry with their "feminism" that they are forgetting everything that has always made the female the better of the two sexes, and therefore what makes them such magical and enchanting creatures. especially to men. personally, i see the japanese, and their animation ("Anime") as nothing short of a godsend, often openly encouraging femininity in an age where it's otherwise been long forgotten...

Keyword is CREATURES right?:D

I run a hifi business selling some specialist audio products. I have quite a few female customers of all ages. Initially I assumed that they were buying the stuff for their partner or a male family member. Some do, but a sizeable proportion are real audiophiles with a good stack of top brand names in their systems. And I also learnt that females have far better hearing than males:yes:.

Moderator: I understand your deleting part of my comment, lesson learned. In fact, maybe it would be best to change the title of the thread, maybe "Women in Hi-Fi" or something, if that can be done.

I appreciate the tolerance of a certain amount of free speech even though this was somewhat off topic.

It's one of the things I love about Latin America in general. The differences between men and women are openly recognized and celebrated (and enjoyed by this Old BajaGringo!).

Viva la Difference!

:music:

Holy!!! I can't believe this thread is still here! Last night when I saw the title I thought, "There's one that'll be down the bowl in short order".
Congrats:thmbsp:

When my wife wants music she fires up the CR-1000 with the NS-670s and if the FM is not to her liking there is a K-1000 cassette, a Pioneer PL-88fs or an Onkyo CDP hooked to it. If she is downstairs then it is the CR-2020 and Polk 7s and the DVD player.

My postings and that of others were before this thread was moved from the Vintage Solid State thread.

There is no problem with free speech or having an opinion. And you are certainly welcome to yours. I suspect the delete was when they were monitoring this thread to see where it was going in Vintage Solid State.

By putting this thread in the Off-topic board you can probably explore some of your ideas more freely.

When I go to the audio-specific boards I expect to have fun discussing audio and not get injected with political, racial, gender issues and debates. You will find similar etiquette guidelines in other audio forums. There are political and current events forums and boards for that. Color me Anal, but I come to this forum to get away from that. .. all ye who enter ... check your baggage at the door ;)

Other than that, have fun and welcome.

Just a quik reply , but you are right.
Not many women dig high fidelity.
My last girl did and allong with me lost her record collection.

>I also learnt that females have far better hearing than males

They also have sharper sense of smell. I did not know that for the longest time.
