It depends on what you're looking for in a speaker. The Polk's will give you a full range of sound and do it pretty well. The Paradigms are smaller speakers requiring a stand to sound their best and never give you the bass the Polk's will. It also depends on what series the 20's are. Many of the studio series in it's early models had a hard time taming their titanium and aluminum tweeters. I have a pair of the 60's and while they can sound quite smooth in the midrange and bass, the tweeter leaves much to be desired. I thought they would settle in over time but it's been about 6 years now. The Polks aren't perfect either but if you're looking for a full range speaker you might give them a shot. The Polks aren't bad overall and these were a tad better than most of that run.

I have the Paradigm studio 60 v5 now and love them, i had the Polk RTI a1 bookshelf before and both are quite different. the polks lean more towards warm sounding and the paradigms can be a little on the analytic side but still warm and very musical. I agree with Love-Vinyl, the aluminum dome tweeter on the paradigm can be, to some a little harsh and need taming it does depend on what equipment you have and your likes, where the polks have a silk dome tweeter and is a lot softer and can fit in more systems. IMHO i love the paradigms more and think they are at a higher level then what even the best polks can ever achieve. if you didn't buy anything yet look at getting the polk RTi a1 or a3 bookshelves and compare them to the studio 20s because that is comparing apples to apples. other wise compare the monitor 70 or RTi a7 to the floor standing paradigm studio 60 or 100s. i'm not sure if polk makes the monitor 70s anymore and actually never listen to that series. you won't be disappointed with the paradigm 20s though listened to them when buying the studio 60s, sounded great and very close in the top end only difference the 60 got more on the lows because of the two more drivers.:thmbsp:

hey mike, i'm resurrecting this old thread because i'm interested in hearing more about the differences your heard between the v5 20's and 60's. i currently have v3 20's and i'm considering replacing them with v5 60's as i'm moving to a bit larger space, but i'm a little worried the smaller dia. driver of the 60 will lose some of the magic that i love in the 20's mids. (and fwiw i find the high end of v3 20's just the way i like them.)

I love my v3's, but if I could (and I just heard them 2 weeks ago), I'd buy a. set of v5's in a heartbeat. Same warmth but cleaner and in a much less "boxy" sounding presentation. Plus, they look WAY better
