Polk monitor 10s

Hi all. A few months ago I picked up a pair of speakers at a garage sale. Paid 10 bucks for them as the owner didn't know If they worked, after looking at them I determained they where model 10s and they came with the original boxes although the cardboard was in rough shape. One speaker didn't work and all it needed was a new set of fuses. I'm not sure what sub model of 10s I have. On the back of the speaker cabinet there are 2 fuses. Any help on determining what sub model I have would be much appreciated as well as any suggestions on upgrades that could or should be done. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to AK!! those are great speakers.

TONS of information online about the very popular Monitor 10, that you know there are submodels leads me to believe you've done some research already. AK has a lot of info and if you search "Polk Audio Monitor 10" here (upper right hand corner of this page) and in a search engine you should find a plethora of information regarding the different models along with popular upgrades. The Polk Audio site is another great resource for researching.

Have you checked on the back of the speakers to see if there is anything such as 10A, 10B etc;? Do you have any pictures you can post showing the fronts (with grills off) and the backs?

Thank you for the reply. Will definitely give those suggestions a try. I did do a little bit of research but didn't get anything conclusive as most if not all of what I've seen has only 1 fuse per cabinet. Will post pictures once I get some taken. Again thanks for the reply

As you're aware there are different iterations of these speakers out there, if the back label is missing you can tell by the tweeters that are present (as long as they haven't been switched out) and/or the crossover circuit. All of the information you'll need is on the Polk Audio forum.

Here are some photos of the speakers the tweeter seems to have a small hole in the center. After looking at them to take pictures I noticed in the back there seems to be a wiring diagram for the fuses. It appears to say 1 for the highs and 2.5 for the lows. When I replaced all the fuses they had been .5 fusses. I replaced them with 1s. Does this mean the low frequency fuses need to be 2.5 amp?

Ok, I wondered in your first post when you said one speaker wasn't working and it just needed a set of fuses I thought that might of been a typo. So if I read that correctly you're saying 2 fuses (set) on each speaker?

I'm a big fan of vintage Polk Monitors having owned 5's, 5jR's, 7's, 10's and SDA's however I'm by no means an expert. There are several here on AK who hopefully come along and clarify what iteration of the 10's you have.

Yes. That is correct. And that's partly what was throwing me off because when I did my first round of research everything I saw only had 1 fuse per speaker.
 
Regarding the pics, what you have are the vaunted & coveted Peerless tweeters. The speakers look to be an early iteration of the Monitor 10.

There was the 10, 10A, 10B & 10 Series 2. I can safely guess they are not the Series 2 and will guess they are just Model 10's

Maybe it’s just because of the perspective, but that cabinet looks deeper than the cabinet on my 10a’s.
Whats the cabinet depth on yours?

Man, I was thinking the very same thing! I bet those babies dig deep with that extra cabinet volume. Looks to be at least 1/3 more than any Model 10s that I've seen.

OP - that's a nice grab for a ten spot. The 1A fuse in all four locations won't hurt anything. Order the right fuses for them and feel free to use those in the interim. As long as you don't go crazy with the volume, you should have no fear of blowing them.

The gentleman above knows ALL things Polk so consider the water crystal clear.

As for upgrades & mods that would be primarily recapping the crossovers
