I thought I'd create a thread for the small bookshelf speakers that compete against the Minimus 7's. If they edge them, or out-compete them in some way or form, they're eligible here.

Here's my pair...they're not 7W's ;)

Before this thread gets going why not share you're thoughts on what it is, what you noticed when you compared your Minimus 7 to the speakers you posted as to how they are "Minimus 7 killers". Provide as much detail as possible, such as amplification, room dynamics, music genres stuff like that

Canton Plus S, everything the Minimus 7 hopes to be. Much higher quality drivers, real Xovers, inert cast resin cabinets, all leading to silky smooth highs, and surprising bass response.

The German engineering shows but wasn't cheap, these still sell for more used than the Minimus 7 did new.

I have at least a dozen Minimus 7, 7W's, have had ads L300, and Vanco Compac 50, the Cantons beat them all.

nice there's also the matching Plus C passive sub.

^ I've only heard good things about those Small Cantons, I hope to one day acquire a pair.

Having had L300's and Minimus 7's they really opened my eyes and ears to the fact that smaller speakers can sound quite nice in the proper setting
 
Surprisingly these Zenith CV-7000’s are way better than expected. They have much better low end than M7’s and have an Lpad on the tweeters. The crossovers are not to skimpy to say the least, the grills are sturdy and cloth covered. These are pretty much the same size as M7’s and shielded. I don’t think most of us would give these a second look but they deserve a listen.
I just noticed the crossover configuration looks similar to the design Pete B designed for his M7 mod to implement an Lpad, the Lpad in these are 20ohm as well.

I see a bunch of these on eBay at times, but tend to think they're low-end junk. May give them a try someday.

Seems you know your stuff with the Cantons.
What are the differences in the Plus range?
I mostly see the Plus D for sale.
 
I just put another system together in my rather small office, consisting of a Marantz 2216 receiver, Sony five-disc player, and my Boston A60s and I am shocked with how good the system sounds. The little BAs produce outsized bass in this room. I really like those speakers!
 
How small? I had a pair of energy encores which sounded better than the Minimus 7 and of similar size. But, my Bozaks MB80s are much better but, larger.

The Plus D is larger, similar to the sealed GL-260 in size but vented. Being German there's little literature on the brand but they're top notch from my experience.

Having had many small speakers over the years, Minimus 7 included, and limiting the discussion to similar sized units, my favorites are a pair of tiny Missions. They may be M50, I can't be sure. Doesn't say on the back label. I believe the origins to be part of an executive desktop system. Without resorting to flowery terms, I just find them to be better sounding overall. On balance, very nice.
