Power amps into preout jack question

Just a quick question..... when using the preouts on a receiver, does the amp section in said receiver get "used" or how should I put it..... less wear and tear???

The power amp section would still be powered up, but it would be just at idle (no current draw from a speaker load), so heat and wear and tear should be minimal.

I thought so, but figured I would check.i was using an amp with a Concept 2.5 and the little sucker seemed to get quite warm still... I am using a Pioneer vsx-d1s at the moment and figured that less heat output in that beast , the better longevity for it. I'll just have to try it out and do some testing I guess

It will still be running at however much current it uses with the volume all the way down. it will make heat. Depending on the unit, it will make a little or a lot. The further into Class A it is biased, the hotter its going to run. If the bias isn't set right, it may run hotter than it should.
