POWERING A DIY RCM

Good Evening,

This site is always helpful, however I cannot find any information that will direct me towards powering my DIY RCM. I have a DC gear motor that is 12 volts. Amp 1.4 amps. I have a small shop vac that has the following specs: 5 amps , AC/60z, at 120 volts.

The geared motor goes forward, and backward. I can't for the life of me find a powering solution so that when I placed the buttons on top they will power on and power off.

If you do respond can you please input images. I have been sitting here for 4 years with a plan to build, but Grainger couldn't help, and all of the electricians dudes act like I am powering a house when I ask them.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I hid the power for the wall wort and vac inside. I found my wall wort at a local Goodwill. I think I paid 2 dollars for it. Just look for one that says 12 volt DC output, and you should be fine. As far as power supplies, (AC), yes any hardware store, or home improvement store, (Lowes, Home Depot), will have what you need. Beware though, if you tell the sales associate what you are doing, and what you need the items for, they won't understand. Keep the faith, it will all work out.

Okay, and then you ran power cord to the AC outlet to where exactly?
 
To power the outlet, I had a cord with a male plug from an old appliance, stripped the wires and attached the cord to the outlet, (this is to provide power to the outlet). Next, I made another cord, (again male plug). This cord will go from the outlet, to an on/off switch, (light switch or toggle switch, your choice). From the on/off switch, I attached a cord with a female plug, (this will be for your vacuum). This will be your power for your vacuum only. I plug the vacuum into this cord, turn on the vacuum, but use the switch on your rcm, to turn on and off the vacuum. (It's easier than reaching down and turning on, and off the vacuum. Wall wort is a little easier, except for the switch. The wall wort will plug into the extra space on your power outlet. I guess you will need to figure out how much cord from the wall wort you will need to reach your switch, then add a little extra. Cut the cord. Now you need to get a momentary switch, (this switch will allow you to run your motor in forward and reverse). The momentary switch will include a wiring diagram to show how to correctly wire the switch for forward and reverse. From the switch, you will need a length of wire leftover from the wall wort, and attach to your motor. Take time with wiring the wall wort, to be sure it's correct. I am not an expert with anything electrical, but I managed ok, and am sure you will to.
