Primus doing Rush

If I need to move it to music I can but figured it would get better traction here.

I haven’t seen it mentioned yet (just did a search). Primus is playing Farewell to Kings as a tribute to Rush durning their tour this year. They will play it in its entirety then do a set of their stuff.

Picked up my tickets for Richmond, Va today.

If any band can pull it off, Les and the boys are the ones to do it. In my opinion.

EDIT: Just checked, they're not gonna be closer than about 300 miles.... :bye:

I wish I could have seen em years ago when they did the entire Seas of Cheese album for its anniversary.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with my brother a few weeks ago. He remembered me bringing up
how I loved the live album of Phish covering the entire The Who Quadrophenia album.
He said, man Id be so pissed if I went to a live show of a band and they did some other bands material.
I get that notion, but personally I love seeing other skilled bands do other bands work. Like hearing the
Black Crowes do Stones or Little Feat. It doesnt get any better.

Im jealous man. Enjoy that show. Im sure it will be great.

That sucks. Richmond is about 2.5hrs for me but my daughter lives about 35 minutes away from the venue, and more than likely she will go also.

It would be different if it was a secret but they are advertising it as a Rush Tribute set (the whole Album) and a set of their music.

That sounds like an amazing show.
I love Rush and have been a fan of Primis since the early 90s. I would love to hear Les do his Geddy impression.
Wonder if he’ll be using a Ric or the Rainbow bass?
 
I saw Primus back in 1992(ish). They played the RPI field house which is located in Troy NY. Some talented musicians! I had the HONOR of seeing RUSH 5 times at SPAC located in Saratoga NY. I was blown away every single time! I think about the only band that I could equate to RUSH when it comes to pure musicianship and striving for perfection would be Steely Dan. I’ve seen the Dan many times, but RUSH is my wheel house!

I have seen Rush 9 times (mostly 78-83) and Primus a 4 times. I am pretty sure they will do it justice. Actually Primus does Rush covers often live.

Edit: where I grew up you could catch most bands 3 times durning a tour, longest drive is about 1hr 20mins.

I’m in. The closest date is two hours away, but it’s close to where I used to live.

I was lucky enough to see them twice on that tour. I bought tickets for the Philly show, four hours away from Syracuse, where I lived at the time. Then they booked Syracuse. So, I just went to both.

I was at that show, too. That was a hell of a bill. I never did manage to see Rush. Just never worked out.
 
I like seeing bands playing other bands' stuff, especially if they're trying to replicate the original style; to me it demonstrates the musicianship of a band.

Another band I'd put up alongside Rush for live performances is Genesis; always seemed to be excellent performances, and good sound. A schoolfriend of mine went on tour with them as a roadie, in the early 80's...
 
I have yet to check out Primus, I should. Their drummer has his own cider house in my town though which I enjoy and should go back to at some point. (Herb's Cider)

Hey guys, Primus doing Rush is awesome. That said, I just wanted to let you all know that the opening band The Sword kicks some serious ass and Wolfmother is supposed to be pretty cool too. I would go early to check them out.

That is one of the things I use Tidal for. I find the opening bands I have not heard of and check them out. Beats not liking it live in front of you :D
 
I've never seen Primus live before but am familiar with their work. I'm sure they would do it justice.
I watched a video of Violent Femmes doing DSOTM and I thought it was fantastic with just the right amount of reverence for the source material.
Here in Atlanta we are blessed to have a pretty good band that does tributes to artists and albums. Always a good time since they treat the original material with respect and certainly do it justice. The band is Yacht Rock and we've seen them do Michael Jackson, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, The Who, Beatles, Talking Heads and REM. Always a good time.
 
When I saw Primus, the opener was Weapon of Choice, kind of like Rage Against The Machine. I'd never heard of them before. I've not heard of them since.
 
Oh hell...this will be in town at the end of May. Gonna have to catch this one. Saw them perform “Sailing the Seas of Cheese” in its entirety about fifteen years ago and it was sensational.

The Sword is definitely a seriously good band (if you like the genre). I caught them in a small club around ‘09 or ‘10 right after they’d finished touring Europe with Metallica and it was a powerful, compelling experience. They’re a product of Austin...a town not really know for producing dark, doomsday metal...a fact I believe helped them to be somewhat stylistically unique. Highly recommended.
