Pro sports

Sports is entertainment and I watch my fair share. From the entertainment perspective, pro players salaries are probably in line with (or below factoring their limited career span) those in the television, film, and music business, but nobody seems concerned with the amount they earn. I would much rather pay $100 or so to watch Tom Brady as opposed to Justin Beebs.

I would pay $100 to see the Beebs on an NFL field and squashed on live TV.

I'm a Pittsburgh Pirate fan and the economic scenario in MLB will prevent them from winning ever again . Hard to watch .

I use to be an avid Baseball & an average Football fan. Over the years ... just slowly drifted away from both entirely. :boring:

Pro football turns me off more for the "actors" celebrating every first down and tackle. What's next? Offensive guards celebrating a block by dancing around flexing his muscles? Pro basketball it seems like they don't play hard until the last 5 minutes. Soccer is too slow. Baseball is nice to have on while listening to music. Hockey is a game worth watching. Love road racing bikes.
Overall, celebrities kinda get under my skin. Many times they value their opinion more than the guy in the street. Their views mean nothing at all to me. If they are good, generous, and kind, then I respect them. If they want me to walk to work while they are flying around in a private jet, they are buffoons.

I have a friend who is a passionate but critical American football fan, because he considers the playing field a pure meritocracy at the college and pro level in spite of the problems with peds and cte.

I was thrilled to hear the fans boo the players after the anthem at the Pats, Texans game. The anthem means something to me.

Only thing I would watch is Hockey, but since they dont run games on OTA tv I dont. No way Im gettin cable for that.

football basketball baseball etc I couldnt give half a rats ass

I watch sports as an escape from everyday life. I don't care to see the politics inserted when I'm watching the event to escape it. These athletes need to be careful, as the geese which lays all the golden eggs they benefit from can easily be pulled away by their displays.

Apparently more then the lack of accountability for officially sanctioned abuse of authority. It takes far more integrity to do the right thing than go along doing the popular thing.

It'll be interesting to see how many athletes stay true to their beliefs as the downward trend of viewership continues and their income levels follow.

^ This is why I stand for the anthem. You and I get to express our opinion even if we respectfully disagree. This isn't about the players rights to stand or take a knee. It's about doing what your employer expects you to do. I know when I'm at work I don't have freedom of speech; I have to exhibit a certain degree of professional decorum. Outside of work I get to express myself freely. The fans (customers) are not held accountable, they can sit or stand as they wish; the players (employees) are accountable.
The fans clearly expressed their right to their opinion today and I agreed with that expression.

I respect your opinion and I'm glad you responded to my post. I hope you found my response respectful as well.:bigok:

Used to be a big Formula 1 autoracing fan - I actually went to Detroit twice in the early 80s to see world class racing on the city streets of Motown!
... but my interest seems to have faded. We have the TIVO record all the F1 races, but last year we barely watched any
and I deleted the whole 2016 season when they started up again this year.
And I wouldn't give a nickel for baseball or football ...
Your mileage may vary, of course ...

I did, and thank you for civil discourse.
My reaction from lifelong conditioning is to respond appropriately as taught to the anthem and the ceremonial raising off the National emblem, without thought. I've since put some thought into what constitutes patriotism, and why.
This has been an ongoing process, made no less complicated by contemporary events.

Re today's events;
The booing could be taken of the counterprotesting fans by the demonstrators as "it's ok for "you people" to entertain us, but we just dont care if you make it home after the show if you have an encounter with LEOs".
The first amendment protects the right of free speech (including flagrant flag abuse, which makes me squirm) from official censure, but does not shield one from response.
Some of the things considered abuse of the flag of the United States linked here;
