Problem with pioneer PL-61 45rpm speed control

When I switch the TT to 45rpm and try to set the speed, it either speeds way up or slows way down even though I’m barely moving the speed control.

What could be going on?

Any help appreciated, thanks in advance.

Try some Deox-it on the pot, I don’t know the table so I couldn’t tell you but you also may want to download the SM from Vinyl Engine.

That’s a sweet looking deck! Is that a stock tone arm? I really like my 61, just needs some cleaning on the pots but otherwise a solid TT. I’ll post up pics when I get home later. Btw what cart do you have on that 41?

PL-61 (and MU-61 - same thing sold as motor unit only) was Pioneer’s top of the line belt drive model and the main competitor to Sony TTS-3000. Both are among the best belt drive turntables of the period, I wouldn’t mind owning either or both!
