Problems Recording....

Hey Everyone - Hope you're all well. I just received an Akai GX-630D reel yesterday & I'm having problems recording anything. I get a strong signal while monitoring, but when I rewind & playback there is nothing recorded or any vu movement at all.

Any ideas what might be wrong? Is it me, the machine or am I just cursed.
This is the 2nd reel I've bought & had problems with in the past month.

Any help would be very much appreciated...

Well apparently it is.... broken. This is unless you operate it incorrectly. Does it play pre-recorded tapes?

Is the monitor switch set to tape or source?

Did you try with a different tape ?
Old or new tape ?
Could just be a dirty record /playback head also.

Are both recording mode switches pressed in when you are recording?
