The problem is the cost out weighs the value of doing so. These aren't Macintosh devices.

On the other hand if you're willing to learn a few basic steps they aren't difficult to restore. Upgrade the power modules too.
yup. i have a ca880 in the attic that was free and i have a set of the discrete kits on hand and i just can't justify putting that $100+ set of outputs into that amp.( and i do the work myself)
i did one for a customer a couple years ago and i can honestly say that it is just not worth it.
btw, the relay is not a protect relay, it is just a speaker delay to avoid speaker thump so a protect relay would be an additional cost.
recap should be done as well because who wants to put $100+ in parts into an amp with old caps?
if it's someone's first stereo or their first child was conceived while listening to it then i can understand the desire to rebuild it, otherwise i wouldn't bother.

Totally agree. What's sad though is as an amp it sounds good. Its Sanyo guts.
The niche that I fill with either the 800 or the 880 is a learning tool. With my grand sons we go through the process of bringing it back to life. If something snarfs, not a big loss.
