The stock emitter resistors are 0.5R/5W. Is it really necessary to use such a high wattage resistor? I'd like to replace them with 1% metal film resistors but can't find 5W rating ones.

Is there a way to calculate the needed wattage?

I would not reduce the wattage of the emitter resistors. Wire wound are the better replacement.

Is there a reason you are changing the sand block resistors?

I need some guidance on using Ohm's law here.

Was looking at a SX-5590 locally. Nice unit SX-1250 cousin... just didn’t work out. Have rebuilt 2 1250s.

Just pulled by DBT failing SA-900 off the shelf after deeming it a "varsity project" a couple of years back.
Not varsity yet but I know a lot more than I did.
I'll start a new thread.

Love the speaker mod. I recapped my SA-700 but stopped short of replacing those D#%&# speaker terminals.

I just got an SA-900. It has two of the speaker terminals, and I custom made some cables I could use with a previous receiver that came without those speaker terminals. I haven't had a chance to test out the amp yet. I need to slowly move it out of the basement. I got it with a Pioneer Elite DVD player, Micromega Stage 3 and Micromega DAC 1. My wife has seen these, but not the SA-900 yet. A little bit at a time is my motto!

I did get WAF over the Micromega gear, and they sound gorgeous in my McIntosh/Cornwall system.

I've had an SA-900 sitting in our basement for over 15 years and I don't think I'd be willing to put in the effort to recap it, what should I do with it? Would it even sell if put up? Anyone interested in it?

Also have a Technics amp that died a little while back, not sure what killed it but we had been using it for a good 20 years.
