Promoters Planning "Biggest Concert in History"?

I don't care, if I got to be in a wheel chair cause I'm all broken up and kick it in the back.....in the disabled section. I'd buy a wheel chair that a first class airline seat would be jealous of. But who cares, we are talking about the people that took fifties rock 'n roll music and propelled it into the future by showing what a little imagination and allot of partying can do !

ROCK ON !!!!

I worked three big shows this past March. Springsteen, The Who, and Chicago/Earth Wind & Fire. The Who had absolutely no energy in both the band and the crowd. It was like being at a death march. The other two were loaded with energy. Springsteen @66 playing over three hours with no break. I did 13 hours that day with no break but I'm only 63.

people need to learn to let go of the past and embrace the now, the future

It's all relative, of course. Most of what I listen to at home is at least 50 years old. Pre-war blues is my favorite. As far as live shows go, there is no interest at all in classic rock bands. Even good ones.

I can't get no.... Satisfaction...

from classic rock anymore either. A whole world of music out there that I greatly prefer.

I'd be willing and enthusiastic about seeing any and all of those guys in a small venue, but they're talking about huge 40,000+ stadium concerts. Screw that crap. Fun when I was 18, not so much now.

And i sure respect that but the idea of seeing 75 year olds singing songs about teen girls....

The smallest venues these guys play in are 18,000 seat hockey arenas. Coachella is outdoors on Polo fields. So no seats or real bathrooms unless they have a VIP set-up where they bring in some stands and bathrooms in A/C semi trailers. I've been working these events for 10 years.

That's funny, like really !

If you've got ten more just like that....you should go see Jay Leno !

Well....

I guess we've all got different maturity levels. Some of us have always been overly obsessive in staying active physically until we are forced to stop. But I'm still.....run'in against the wind !!! On a Friday night, I'm still leaning against a piece of Detroit Iron wearing a Vietnam era flight jacket when it's cold. Can't turn a wrench anymore, but at least I can shut down a rice burner. Even watching people literally crash and burn hasn't curbed my obsessions. I did Air Assult School with the French Foreign Legion when I was forty while stationed in Germany for ten years. If enjoyed burning the candle at both ends all my life and I'm sorry to hear about people that have given up on music that have given them so much pleasure when they were you. Some of us never let go, we just fade away !

These bands were great back in the day, but they are way past their prime. I'll play a record or a video of them in their prime before I'll shell out the kind of money that's going to be asked. Not to mention the pain in the ass of attending a huge event like that. Maybe if I was in my 20's and the artists were still relevant.

Nice post but I was confused by this part. Maybe I missed it but who here has given up on the music that brought them so much pleasure when they were young?

Life moves forward, it's just the nature of the beast. As a river.
If you come ashore and enjoy yourself that's all fine. But if you don't get back in the flow you are being left behind.

To me and I only speak for me, that is allowing oneself to get old before their time.

Not me brother.

There is a time and place to party to tunes about 16 year old girls, not at 60, not for me.
It just seems corny frankly.

nothing wrong with a little nostalgia, I do partake

however

I will continue to grow and morph as long as I live, I will not gentle into that good night.

peace

FWIW, doesn't have much to do with getting old as refusing to be subjected to overpriced tickets, herded like cattle into and out of a crowded venue, charged obscene prices for drinks, and subjected to an ear-damaging sound system that is easily bested in SQ by the average yard sale BPC.

To some of us, age had brought what we feel to be a bit of wisdom. Here's one place I'd personally exercise it.

I get what your saying, 100%, and it brings an interesting dilemma. Most of the artists we're speaking about still record new music, and in interviews, artists speak openly about how they would like to play more new music but the crowd doesn't want to hear it. A new song comes on and the bathroom lines and beer lines grow so they're sort of forced into playing greatest hits sets or offend the audience.

So, my question to you, if you paid 200 bucks to see, Paul McCartney, and he only played songs from, say, 1996 and newer, would you actually prefer that? Would you be angry? What is the proper mix of nostalgia (songs about 16 y.o. gals) and adult themed tunes?

I'm interested to hear peoples opinions on this one!

(McCartney 9 albums post 1996, Dylan 9 albums post 1996, Neil Young 17 albums post 1996, The Who 1 album post 96, Rolling Stones 3 albums post 96, Roger Waters 0) You can expand the argument (obviously) beyond these six, but these are the current acts at the for mentioned festival concert.

I'm really good at doing this! I got to work a Garth Brooks double show. 18,000 inside, and 18,000 more waiting outside to get into the second show that night. GB takes in a million a night when he does these. We had a blast doing it. Didn't get out of there until after 2 am.

Why you fargin' cattle herding bastige, you!:D
Seriously though I think it's cool he plays two shows at smaller venues giving his fans a better show than being stuck up in the nosebleed section watching ants move.
And for half a million for overtime, hell yeah, I'd do it too!

If you're the one doing the herding, I'd imagine a somewhat contrasting perspective.

One of many, but I did have a blast doing it. The fans were real good about it. I was expecting a lot worse conditions than we had. Especially for the start of the second show when the lines wrapped around the venue and beyond.

It wasn't my first 36,000 I've done up to 40K for Jimmy Buffet and Pearl Jam 20.

Yeah I'd do it too! We had a guy we called Bulldozer working with us, he loved clearing crowds. He didn't come back this past season.

Wish I'd have the Depends vendorship for this gig!

LOL on the cannabis and viagra. Those polo fields are nice and smooth at night.
