If you don't have any documentation, take a look on Hifiengine.com. You'll have to register to download manuals but it's free

I can't see any way anything other than RCA ended interconnects would work?
Is your unit foreign or heavily modified?
Are you sure you have the correct model number?
Hi and thanks for the response. I bought the unit new maybe 15 years ago and haven't used my system much for the last 5 and it definitely is the correct model number. I have a matching power amp and Vandersteen 2C speakers. When I switched on the system awhile ago, I heard a loud sharp sound that made me turn the system off. I suspect the problem is the Adcom Amp 1st and the Vandersteens 2nd. I had bought via Amazon 10 feet of "RCA plug interconnect" which didn't fit, i suspect probably because of the "plug" descriptione.
In any case to test the system, I just took some:
FosPower (15 Feet) 2 RCA M/M Stereo Audio Cable [24K Gold Plated | Copper Core] 2RCA Male to 2RCA Maleinterconnects out of my church audio equipment bag and it Did connect to the Adcom preamp and played my tuner through a powered Mackie mini monitor speaker, so I l know the preamp and tuner are good and can try my CD player next.
Thanks again for your response and any speculation you may have on the loud sharp sound I got from my full system when connected.

Just an old fart trying to help.
Was it a thump, or a whine, or a hum? Quick or did it last a while?
If a thump that sometimes happens with seperate components like an amp and a preamp.
Conventional school of thought is when turning on the system turn the amp on LAST
When shutting off the system turn the amp off FIRST.
If it's a whine or hum someone smarter than me may have some ideas.

It's definitely not a whine or a hum. It was a sharp sound that made me turn off the system quickly to avoid damage. Also, the amp was plugged into the preamp which I always turned on first

Now I'm wondering about the speakers, they are powered speakers?
Were they hooked up to the speaker terminals on the Adcom amp?
That might be what the issue is. AT THIS POINT WE ARE GETTING OUT OF MY REALM OF KNOWLEDGE. Speculation only now--- Being powered speakers it seems to me that would be double-amplifying them. ONLY GUESSING but seems like the preamp might need to be connected directly to the speakers and bypassing the amp. Now I really hope someone more familiar with powered speakers offers some help.
