The cheap ones are a waste of time and do quite poorly. The best ones are superior to mica. Testing one cheap thermal pad and deciding that all the rest will perform similarly is a mistake.
One of the biggest problems with mica is the variances in thicknesses. They are all over the place. A small increase in thickness means a quite large decrease in thermal conductivity. Mica sucks for conducting heat.
I realize that this may be difficult for you to understand. All I can tell you is to do your own research and come to your own conclusions.
