PRV D2200 Continued.

I was trying to find an old thread where we were discussing the PRV D2 2000 PH driver. I decided it might be a better idea to start a new thread.

I picked up one of these drivers for testing on my two inch horns and I didn't expect much. I was pleasantly surprised that this driver outperformed my expectations.

As I recall there was a suggestion of another PRV Audio driver that was significantly better than the D2200ph. I think I need to give that driver some consideration as well.
Seems to me this driver might perform well in a Belle, Lascala or Cornwall.

I also tried this driver on my 400 Hertz horn And although it performed well, it didn't go quite low enough to be used in a Klipschorn.

I swapped the D2200PH for the D4500Ph-and and found it to be a noticeable improvement, but it is also significantly more expensive. They’re on sale currently and may end up in closeout.

I am pleased with the performance of the D2200, so I will likely pick up the D4500 as well. If it can make it to 400Hz ok. I will send it out for additional testing.

I Cross Mine in my modded PRV WG 4550 at 500hz. Much lower and they lose directivity and phase coherence, which has as much to do with with the horn as the driver, which may indeed play lower in a slightly longer horn.

I agree. I think 500 Hz is the proper crossover point for the WG45-50 horn. I'm planning to test the driver on one of my 300 Hz FC horns to see how much the larger horn helps. Hopefully it'll be comfortable at a 400 Hz crossover. It'll be interesting to see how much of the improvement comes from the horn itself.

Not many phenolic drivers (1” or 2”) that can be crossed over at 400Hz.

The D2200Ph does perform best at 500Hz or higher.

The PRV D3220Ph may go lower than 500Hz according to its frequency response sweep on the PRV site.

DS18 has some interesting drivers as well.

The 2200 has one of the flattest freq sweeps I have seen without needing EQ. It is quite amazing.

When paired with certain phenolic tweeters, the 2200 & tweet blend seamlessly and sound like a single driver from 500 to 20kHz.

I just ordered a D4500ph for testing.

I agree the D2200ph is very flat. Amazing driver for the price.

I haven't heard the D2200ph in a speaker, I purchased it for 2 inch mid horn testing.

I am anxious to try this prv audio D2200PH driver in a Cornwall. I just got done designing the 2 inch horn for that application.

I'm still waiting for the prv audio D4500PH to arrive.

I think you will like it. It is very natural sounding with low distortion. It is very similar sounding to all the K55 variants but better if can stay above 500Hz (IMO) in your application.

Studio Build Eliptrac 400 with lower Fc and smoother profile. Currently untested. I'm hopeful!

JBL/Selenium ST Series. ST200 is a good entry level tweeter. The ST400 is mainly for higher SPL but works too.

The ST302-X looks to be the best of the bunch, but 1 pair I received did not match the frequency response indicated in the spec sheet. it looked more like the ST-304 which has a nasty dip after 10kHz. Long story short... I slightly modified an ST200 diaphragm to fit the ST302-X and viola! The frequency response now matches the 302-X spec sheet, which means a nice flat response almost up to 20kHz.

The real shame is that Selenium stopped making a "slot type/JBL 077" with phenolic diaphragm in the early 2000's. These had great dispersion and frequency response.

looks like you got the Ferrite version. The Neodymium version is even more of a beast.
