I'm a huge fan of PSB speakers and have many of their speakers in 3 different systems throughout the house. I welcome all PSB owners to this thread and to show off their speakers.

I was a rep for NAD/PSB from 2001 till 2009. Fun lines to rep but a hard sell in the south and sometimes a PITA. NAD had lots of failure rates on the surround receivers it seemed and dealers were stand-offish on them. PSB speakers sold ok and I hated to see the Stratus Gold, Silver, etc., get replaced with the Image, etc. But, the market seemed to shift towards speakers with slender cabinets for WAF.

I'd definitely take a pair of Stratus Golds, though. Wish I would have bought a set when they were being closed out.
 
I purchased an old PSB Subsonic 7 for $200 in great shape to replace my original PSB Subsonic 5 which is still producing lots of good bass. The Sub7 works really good as well.

I am a Canadian and PSB speakers were the first serious speakers I bought to go with my Denon system in 2000. Paul Barton was a design engineer and I belive he work for Acoustic Research in Canada for a while.

I know many products are either manufactured or outsourced to China. PSB speakers are Chinese made and it taints my opinions with the product. Cheap Styrofoam cones was a disappointment. I gave my last PSB towers away for free because nobody wanted to buy them.

I think certain product lines might still be made in Canada. If you're looking for a well designed/engineered product, look at Axiom or Bryston speakers.
 
I only have a pair of Alpha B’s which impress me very much for their size/price. I have been looking for a nice pair of Stratus Gold for a couple years but they are quite rare to find in my area.
 
Guys, what do you think of the Alpha T1 speakers? I know they are old but i can get them for a nice price.

These babies go back a ways. I loved them and they sounded great. I have ways too many speakers so I sold them to a guy that bought a dual 1229noff me in May. Replaced them with advent 5002s also good speakers.
 
PSBs are the backbone of two of my systems.

My vinyl system uses B25s and I have never felt the need to upgrade.

The family room system runs on a pair of B1s. That's my default system, and the B1s, while not perfect, strike the right balance of sound and WAF. They've been in place for nearly 15 years, except for a couple of short periods when I was experimenting.

Both the B1s and B25s are paired with NAD stereo receivers. Also have a small PSB sub currently not in service. Everything bought used.

Can anyone tell me the differences between the Century 1000i and the Stratus Bronze speakers? I'm trying to find a used pair of the 1000i but they appear to be as rare as hen's teeth.
 
Currently using the older R30 bookshelf PSB speakers in my sunporch system, paired with a Yamaha CR-420 for amplification. They still sound pretty great. Just a nice even sound, decent base extension, not boomy. I believe they are back from the PSBs were being made in Canada.

Probably different drivers, cabinet, crossovers, etc...The Stratus line did come out after the Century line. The Silver and Gold were especially nice speakers.

A buddy of mine gave these to me when he redid his living room. His wife wanted something else to "match" the new receiver. I am ecstatic as I liked how they sounded whenever I visited him. Picking them up this week. Not sure of the series, but the sub says Subsonic II.
I think he bought them in the late 90's early 2000's. Any idea of the possible series?

There probably PSB's Alpha A/V series. I have the center channel I bought in 2001, But unfortunately don't have the timbre matched L & R speakers in my living room. For most folks that combo will provide very satisfying sound quality for both music and home theater with the sub. Even without the sub the stereo front speakers do a fine job.

Thanks. I know they sounded good whenever I listened to them, how do they rate on the PSB scale? Meaning I guess are they desirable, or just OK as far as collectors go?
 
I think these where one of PSB's first A/V packages, So I'm sure they made better ones. But even PSB's entry level packages where as good or better then a whole bunch of other offerings anywhere near their price.

Even new ones today, If those are in operating correctly, IMO you have to spend some serious coin if you want a noticeable improvement in overall sound quality. Here in Canada one of PSB's Alpha series 5.1 packages comparable to what you have might be $1,500 + and I doubt very much it would be a big improvement.
