Purchase new reel to reel...

Wow, that's a bummer, but hopefully it will all come out well!

Pick up a couple pre-recorded 7.5 ips reels and I bet you will be impressed ;)

I have a couple of hundred prerecorded reel to reel albums that I bought back in the day when I had my Magnecord 1024 and still play them quite often. I currently have a Pioneer RT-707, a TEAC X1000R and a TEAC X300R but since the Pioneer is in my primary 2-channel system it usually gets the honors. I might add that while I enjoy having and playing my open reel collection I am reticent about buying any additional titles on ebay or elsewhere just because of the possibility of condition issues caused by long term storage under less than ideal conditions.

I've purchased a couple hundred pre-recorded reel tapes on eBay the last couple years and I would say the rate of getting a bad one has been about one in 20. The vast majority sound terrific, like they were new. And these days, as a buyer, eBay is basically risk free. The ones I've had that were bad, I returned for a full refund. No biggie.

Just my experience.

I only have one Pioneer deck which is a RT1020L. I bought it at car show swap meet for 15 dollars in the early 90's. Added the hub adapters and a belt for the tape counter. Ihat's the only thing that has been done to it. It's never been in the shop. I take good care of my machines. I have three Teac's. My dream machine is the Teac X2000R. I have an A2300S, a 4010S, and a010 GSL. All great machines!
