Purpose of this new forum.......

This forum's purpose will be for eBay postings, questions on value and worth, craigslist deals, etc. If you want to know what you have and what it's worth, this forum is a one stop shop

Any posts in other forums in relation to these questions will be moved over here, so please save the moderators the work and feel free to post in this forum.

Kam, It is a good Idea, but you might want to clarify that it's for posting someone else's Ebay postings... Assuming the Posting stuff for sale is unchanged... :scratch2:

That is correct - the purpose of this forum is NOT to sell your gear.

Even though a post may start out referencing an Ebay listing, it invariably invites other comments about the item, and the thread heads in a different direction.

If it's about speakers, then the topic is about speakers. I think this is fragmenting the forums. I can see this going into a cycle of proliferation and then deproliferation when it becomes too crazy.

As someone mentioned above, about whether to post about HPM speakers in the Speaker forum or the Pioneer forum. Should have kept it to the Speaker Forum in the 1st place, period. Easy.

Oh well, looks like I'm clearly out-voted so far, but maybe I can set the stage for others with a similar view to speak up.

Over time, as people notice and get used to the fact that the posts here are only about eBay auctions, valuation questions, and the like, the "different directions" will show up in the other forums. There will be a natural separation, which is exactly what we want!

Well, it has a positive and a negative side.
Now all money/value related threads are together, but..
I don't have the time to watch all sub-forums, so I'm mainly in the Pioneer and Vintage around, for the rest I have not enough time, even if there is also interresting stuff. But I can`t be everywhere. So more scattered forums means also loss of information for me, I'm with Kencat here. And these could also be starters for other nice threads... but if the mayority has different opinion, OK.

Ok. I'm going to defend my viewpoint by offering up this thread from the speaker forum. According to the rules, this should be here in the dollars and sense forum.

Sure, the guy starts out with a Craigslist link. BUT, the discussion that ensues is not about the sale, it is about the technical merits of the speaker and the best amps to drive it.

I did not open and read this thread because I want to buy the Bozaks from this ad......I'm reading it to gain technical knowledge from the ensuing discussion from informed AKers. My knowledge base is growing. This way, if I ever come across some, there will be that knowledge, or at least a glimmer of memory that this would be a good buy or not.

This thread, and the resulting information, ONLY became reality because the original poster was looking for info on something he wanted to buy, i.e. a set of speakers. Not from someones out of the blue thought to just ask about Bozak 301s for the heck of it....ya right.

If the post had started in this forum, I would never have seen this thread and that knowledge would be lost to me.

I would say that most of the threads in the speaker forum come from someone asking for opinions on xyz speakers because they are interested in buying them. I've done it many times. I don't believe I would have gotten the responses that I did had it been posted outside of the speaker forum. Again, those posts didn't just result in a few replies saying "ya,they are only worth this or that". They resulted in technical discussion and became totally different in nature from talking about money.

And no way would there have been a spillover into the speaker forum to discuss the technical merits of the Bozak 301's based on the initial post being presented here. This thread would probably have died a quicker death here

C'mon guys and girls. Put your thinking caps on and exercise your right of free speech. There is way too much acquiescence to this. I don't get it.

Moderators, please don't get annoyed at me, but I really don't want to see the Speaker Forum changed from the way it was. I do not see where the harm is in allowing all things speakers, to remain in the Speaker forum. If a particular thread does not interest a reader, they are not forced to read it. We all have the choice to read whatever we want to. But now, I am being required to flip all over the place to find topics on speakers in multiple forums.

It doesn't make Sense.

The thread you reference was started 2 days ago. This forum was put in place yesterday morning. There aren't enough moderators to go back and find EVERY previously existing thread that meets the criteria for inclusion in this forum, and then move them.

This forum was established by the Administrators after much discussion and reasoning regarding the best course of action for AK to take into the future. No decision will have 100% support of a membership of 12,000+, but the reality is that it doesn't have to have 100%.

You have stated your disagreement with the change more than adequately. Continuing to bang the drum and lobby for support for your position isn't going to change a thing. AK isn't moving backward.

In a brief synopsis:

Grumpy and I created this site. We invested our own money and invested more time and more of ourselves than I can say. Because this is so, we want the best for this site and its members. Unfortunately we cannot permit people to start protest marches against us over semantics, because, well, frankly with the upcoming Fest, administrative and site maintenance (making sure the site doesn't lock up every time 50 people click on the same thing at once), plus keeping up with the day to day, well, we just don't have the damn time or mental energy left to devote to chasing our tails. If you've got issues, put them together and drop me a PM. I'm a nice guy, really......the site's free to join and free to stay, but I don't intend to leave this issue up for public debate.
