well I have a new configuration currently C1 carver pre, to carver tfm-35 amp. I have a sony esd 1000 preamp which has surround modes. I like the c1 for music, but would like to use sony for surround duties.

Have purchase a carver av405, which is 110 watts center 100watts main, 50watts surround.

I want to use the 100watt main to power rear speakers for music with c1.

Like to use the 50 watts for surround, 110 watts for center, for,left right main would like to use the tfm35.

Is it feasible to use an aux in on c1 from the sony main output to bring the carver into the setup?
Switch off the rears on the c1, too get the rear mains out system for movies.

Or is there some type of switching unit would add more flexibility to the setup.

Why not go from the Carver preamp to the Sony, then switch on the Sony whenever you want to use the additional channels? This would essentially make the Sony a surround processor. Not sure about the C-1, but my C-16 has an output for a surround processor.

I'm using a Carver DPL-33 in exactly this way, only I'm not using its internal amplifiers, have two Carver TFM-15cb's for that. One bridged mono for 300watts to the center channel, the other feeding the rear surround speakers.

Well i was thinking with the carver after the sony i could balance the output volume of the mains using the carver. The then use the sony to feed all the other amp inputs directly. I have an equalizer connected to the processor loop. Not too sure how the sony would feed back the delays into the main outputs. In this set i would use the processor out to an input on the sony, then use the main out of sony to the processor in, to bring the main channels, then connect the surround channels from the sony to the inputs on the av405. So i would connect the media player to the carver then?

I was thinking other way so i could use the optical inputs on the sony. Hmmm the eq can always move to the tape monitor.

Oh btw thanks for the tip on those speakers unfortunately i didn't bid high enough kicking myself too.

Well that's rather rude don't you think? I've also recommended Infinity RS-325's, Polk Monitor 5's, Infinity Modulus, Klipsch Heresys, Klipsch KG 3.2, AR 58s, Dayton Audio Sub 1200's, etc etc on a regular basis, so whats your point? You have an issue with me recommending great speakers to people asking for recommendations?

I meant it more as gently teasing, sorry to offend. And no, I have no problem with your recommendations.

Naw, man not everyone is looking to make a scene?? But you do post/recommend them often ... not that there is anything wrong with that. :)

They're great speakers that can be had new for less than 1/4 of there retail price, if not for that I wouldn't be recommending them so often. At their retail price of $1800 they're great speakers, at $399 they're an absolute steal.

Lucky for me someone recommended them during one of the crazy Amazon sales. I missed that sale but 3 months later I snagged my first pair for $169, the 4 subsequent pair a month later for $179 each.

Sold the 4 pair to buyers in Australia for a tidy profit, the buyers were ecstatic as they couldn't purchase them there for anything under $1000, so the added shipping wasn't an issue.

Aww, man ... don't be putting thoughts in my head! Bargain hunting for "Vintage Speakers" ... is what I do! And my holly grill, is a "deal" on a pair of Klipsch, Horns!

And nope ... I've never heard them?? But it does not matter to me. As I like my KG 4's so, you know K Horns could only be better! But you much like a dog chasing a car ... "well I caught it!" But now what???

With K Horns, I'd be like a Bulldog, dragging a wading pool indoors! You know ... well you got in the house but it really does not work?? :)
 
Wait a minute, I just remembered the speakers I recommended, a schveet pair of Canton Quinto 520 speakers for $275 if memory serves. Yes here they are.

I need another set of speakers like I need a hole in the head, but I almost bought these anyway. If they're anything like my Canton Plus S they're fantastic speakers.

With the av405 coming i have enough channels power rear speakers from secondary output from the carver c1 on the 100 watt main channel but want to use the front channels output from the c1 which is connected to a tfm35 with the surround processor preamp for surround sound front while using the extra channels to power center and a small pair of rear channel surround.

IMHO...for listening to music, the sound stage should be in front of you. That includes car stereos, as well as, home audio.

Some people have two systems, because they like surround sound movies. Personally, I just watch movies on a two channel system.

The idea of using a four speaker, front and rear, two channel system for music is alien to me.

If you like it, you like it.

Well i like options lol.

Could pick up a set of small surrounds a have separate system totally.
 
Two separate systems in the same room means the front main speakers would need to be used by both systems.

I could help you figure that out if that's what you decide to do.
