Hate that. Always liked her. 1st exposure to REAL African music was "Pata Pata", in '68 or thereabouts.

One news report said she collapsed immediately after performing at the concert, and was being treated on the scene while the audience was calling for encores, I guess not realizing what was going on [backstage]. She died doing what she loved best.

I first discovered her doing concerts with Belafonte. I loved her duets with Harry and she had one of the most unique voices on recordings. She will be missed!!

Miriam Makeba died yesterday evening shortly after a concert in Italy.

She was the one to bring Kwela and Township outside the South African Country.
She was the co-creater of South African Jazz music.

She fought the anti apartheid regime since before she knew how to spell her own name.

She had co-operations with Paul Simon, Harry Belafonte, Hugh Masekela (her early husband) and many others on released material.

Miriam Makeba was a life long friend to many a great celebraty and many an unknown homeless.

She had the rythm, the voice, the enginious musicality and her heart was full of love.

She inspired all generations after her to chalenge the orthodox music scene with ethnic sounds and rythms.

She will stay alive with her spirit and music in my mind and soul as well as many others people's minds and souls.

If you are one of a few that did not know any of her music yet, it's never to late.
Here are some samples of her songs through her career.
