Hmmmmpf ! I'd heard she was REALLY a "Amy Camus" from Passaic.. The Peru business was all hooey. Still, she DID have a remarkable voice, & you hate to see anyone check out...RIP, Yma-Amy, which ever you were...

Her lp's always looked interesting but I never played or hear her music until now. Great singer!!!!!. I have to dig a copy out of my pile.

I was sorry to hear about her passing. I, also, had forgotten about her. The story of Peru etc. I have heard and the N.J. "story" as well. The other supposed fake background story is the fabled one about Los Indios Tabarajos and how they found a guitar alongside a path in an Amazon jungle. The real story is that they were really from Brooklyn; I'm no expert on either set of stories. Maybe someone in here knows the truth!!!

I'm quite sad to hear that. I picked up all of the capital mid-nineties reissues. I still listen to Fuego del Ande on occasion- it's almost a fusion of peruvian folk music and early rock and roll. Mambo is a blast to listen to also.
