Realistic 2100D

When I got my 2100 I was also given some nos bulbs and a spare new switch. I was told the were nigh to impossible to find. I would try a switch from a 2000 and just forgo having a lit switch.
 
One of the best silver era receivers, the second best Radio Shack receiver ever made. Holds it's own with any classic silver era receivers.
 
Beautiful!!! I have the STA-2300 and will never part with it; it is my favorite piece of gear for both looks and sound quality.
 
Picked up one those a few weeks ago at a flea market. Looks a little rough around the edges (chipped veneer, no feet, etc..) but it works just fine. Faceplate has one minor ding on the edge, other than that it looks great.

What a heavy brute.

Never thought that I'd have one of the monster receivers since most of them are pretty pricey but at $50 this has been my cheapest receiver so far.

Thanks everybody for all the comments and leads. I have a new switch on the way from RS Steve and will order a spare from the ebay link sent by AnalogDigit. Thanks guys I can't wait to get this up and running correctly. I'll post when it's a go. Any other comments or advice are always appreciated.
 
Hi all,

I've too have an STA 2100D with a burned out meter light. To the best of my knowledge, the only other issue with it is some noise in the rotary controls - easily corrected.

Got it from my mother along with a pair of original Mach 1's and a pair Nova 8B's. All in outstanding original operational condition but with 30+ years of neglect on the exteriors. I've got the Owner's Manual, the Service Manual, the Schematic Diagram for the 2100 and I'm pretty sure if I dig through her papers, the original bill of sale is in there too. It's been babied.

I've never actually hooked it up but I have heard it hooked up to the Mach's in the past at my Mom's but never had an opportunity to do any comparative listening.

Maybe I'll shoot downstairs and hook it into the system and give it a listen.

I've got the necessary literature and tools, but little experience. Do any of you good people have any info on the parts and process for replacing the meter light?

If anyone needs anything from the documents, I'd be happy to scan and send pages
 
OK, spent a half hour hooking up the STA 2100D and trying to tweak it and I was sadly disappointed.

With all controls set to flat and the Loudness off, the Mach 1's sounded weak and a bit muffled. Turn on the loudness and they sounded bloated and heavy with no sparkle. No amount of short term tweaking with the available controls (receiver and speaker) made them sound right. I was hoping that the RS receiver mated with the RS speakers would be a bit magical, based in part on what I've read in various threads on here.

Reconnected the Mach 1's to the 36 year old Akai AA 1200 next door and once again, they sounded powerful, sweet and alive.

I guess the STA 2100D is just going to have to look pretty on the rack.

If you haven't cleaned the pots and switches adequately, then you need to. I was amazed at the difference it can make. Have a Sansui 9090db that nothing seemed to work. After repeated cleaning and then lubricating everything came back to life except the tuner (entirely different challenge). I've had crackling go away in other receivers, makes a huge difference. Don't expect a simple one shot deal, you may need to spend some time. One thing you will immediately notice is the dials will turn more easily and smoothly. If they are at all stiff, it's definitely long over due.

I have my STA-2000 hooked up to my VL Mach One speakers and they are anything but dull, flat, bloated, etc. Bright, yes, but I just dial them back with the L-pads.

Good luck. I'm jealous, would love to have either the 2100 or 2300 (the latter more so).
