Sold hundreds in all variations from intro till 1995. Loud and in your face but would rather listen to a set of early Minimus 7's
Funny you mentioned the 7s. Those are truly over hyped. Still, I doubt I'll sell mine anytime soon.
In my last incarnation with the shack I sold a bunch of their replacements (7AV'S) and passive subwoofers by simply playing them. It's amazing at how well they played together. People loved they could have two tiny satellites and one big box in the corner and still have pretty durn good sound for a reasonable price.Funny you mentioned the 7s. Those are truly over hyped. Still, I doubt I'll sell mine anytime soon.
Get over yourself. Nobody said a WORD about somebodies high end equipment so why pop up and start shitting all over this thread whining about it? The last time you thread crapped on a vintage thread you came in and told us that instead of buying old equipment we should spend our money on buying things that sound better. Why not stick to the threads where you dont get your feelings hurt?Or anything really,
However we generally get it in threads where the equipment is out of reach or the people doing it think it's a wast of money.
I find irony in bodyblue getting all hot and bothered here, but go see all the threads he closes that are expensive equipment, cables and wires. You know all that snake oil stuff that his equipment is just as good .....or better and his reference point is never trying any of it, but is quick to bite the heads off on others hear that stated they never bought M1s
Only if suspended on quality trestles ...By the way, would better speaker cables help the sound of the Mach One?
Not true. There are a few in my area that are open.Yes, Radio Shack is gone and done NOT still going as someone else said. ALL of their stores are now closed. The end of an era with nothing around to replace it.
Since the name and IP was just auctioned off for $15 million, I'd say they're pretty much gone. What they once were is no more and that's the sad part. A lot of analysts place the blame on the rise of online marketing; however, I feel that RS was uniquely positioned, but through the utter and repeated mistakes by management failed to take advantage of that position. That's what I meant by bashing themselves. Do you remember their Incredible Universe stores of the early 1990s?
The original woofer is actually pretty good when paired with the correct size cabinet, my modded units had punchy deep bass that was better than a Cornwall when compared. I think having the big midrange on top instead of the middle caused the drivers to sound disconnected when you were within 5 to 10 feet of them, it wasn't a problem for room filling sound though. The thread below is the project incase anyone didn't follow it years back.I've had a couple of pairs of Mach Ones, they are what they are. But it seems the number one complaint is the boomy bass from the undersized cabinet. And I agree.
I know people have enlarged the cabinet with good results, but I've often wondered about making trim ring that would allow the installation of a higher quality smaller woofer, one that would work with that cabinet.
Perhaps a nice ten inch JBL woofer and port the cabinet?
You have a point with regards to the O1.Minimus-1 and Minimus-2 speakers are ok for what they were, much like the MC-1000 speakers they offered. The best speaker they ever offered was the Optimus-1 and it does sound pretty close to the KLH it is supposed to be a tribute to. With that said, Original Large Advents are miles ahead of any of those, are plentiful and affordable. So...why not just get a pair of those? If space is an issue, go with the Smaller Advent or Advent/3's.
