Realistic super tweeter?

I am a long time lurker, first time poster

Here is my question. I have a pair of realistic 40-1310 super tweeters. One has gone dead. I opened the case hoping for an easy fix and discovered no crossover. Binding posts staight to the terminals on the magnet. Is there a crossover within the magnet that I can access?

I tried doing a search but was unable to find any info. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Hmmmm something is certain wrong there- should be like a 3.3uF cap in those!

That is what I had assumed. I just picked them up from ebay and was hoping it would be an easy cap replacement when it was dead. I suppose I will end up returning these for a shipping loss. Unless some nice AKer has a solution for me.
 
Well, thats the risk on ebay..... Seller stated they were working prior to shipping. Never functioned when I hooked it up. Great info. Thanks to all. I will have to pack these up and return.
 
i guess it doesn't really matter now, since you're returning them. but for future reference, radio shack also sez this: 'To balance the Tweeter output with the output
from the rest of the loudspeaker system, you should connect an L-pad level
control.'
 
I plan on replacing them with functional realistic super tweets. I noticed that in the owners manual too . It looks like a simple potentiometer in line. It gives no specs on the pot. Can I use any old potentiometer from radio shack or ??????
 
As I remember, The Shack super-tweet doesn't use a xover. Piezo doesnt come into play until 12K or something up there. Lower signals won't work this kind of speaker, so its effectively 'out of the circuit' at lower signal frequencies. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I had two pair of these back in the 80's and the memory isn't top flight.
 
According to the photo these look to be dynamic type tweeters- not Piezos...........

I installed a pair on the top (driver facing up) in a pair of cabinets, and now memory is telling me that there was a cap inline as I fished the wires to the terminals. Dunno why piezo came to mind. But the op should be able exercise eBay's protection policy and eBay will/should refund his total cost including shipping. Lets hope anyway.
Thanks DC- I aint the sharpness knife in the drawer these days....
 
They do have crossovers in them. If you are still interested, I can snap a pic and post it along with the values. If it reads 0 ohms, any crossover in the world isn't going to fix it. I actually took mine out of the little plastic housings and installed them into a diy cabinet along with better crossover components to cross it over at a higher frequency.
BTW, if you get another pair, make sure they are the Japanese version. Some are made in Korea and I even think there were some made in Taiwan.

Ironically, I had already assumed the tweeter was not fixable so I purchased another pair on ebay and they arrived today. Thought I would give AK a shot. Best case fix broken and choose the nicest condition then sell the other two on ebay. Unfortunately I returned the original for a shipping loss after receiving these.

Same model 40-1310, not A or B version. Original made in Japan like A. You can see cap and coil in picture.

Will do a recap and probably add the attenuator to balance the output a bit. Thay are a tad harsh but I think they will enhance the highs nicely when balanced out.
 
FWIW, this R/S planar tweeter is (as far as I am concerned) considerably better sounding and it is almost as sensitive as Fostex/40-1310. Also considerably cheaper on the open market.

Interesting. I really liked the ribbon tweeters on the infinity RS4 and RS 6000. If those are similar I would guess ther do sound good.
