Unserviced , scratched- the condition of the 2270 is not a 9 either- signs of wear - 7, 8 at best- all other units need work- $1800 tops.

To me the word rare, I think 10 on the planet- 5000+ units is hardly rare- uncommon is the angle I'd go toward.

An average of 775.00 for 5 units ? And this guy gets 35/40 bucks a pop for Pioneer speaker plugs and Marantz pre out jacks.
My head would explode if I bought that.

Sort of. The initial production run of 2215, 2230, 2245, and 2270 receivers had lettering that was not engraved, but stamped in, rather than simply stenciled (or screen-printed) on. Also the coatings anodized onto the faceplates of these earlier models was a very faint yellow (or "champagne") compared to later faceplates which were clear-anodized and thus more "silver"-looking.

As these receivers were produced with serial numbers starting at 1000, and the cheaper stenciled silver faceplates started to appear shortly after serial number 5000, there were only 4,000 or so of the "champagne" stamped versions of each of the above models made. Based upon my eBay experience, you'll see 10 to 20 of the silver-faced units for every one of the champagne stamped ones. So, maybe not "rare", but rarer.
