Too bad, $35 would have been a sweet deal. I was lurking and hoped you'd get it. I just picked up a console over the weekend with a mint Pilot 654 in it. Unfortunately all of my equipment (TV-7D/U, etc.) is in storage in another state right now so I can't even test the tubes but the seller has been using it daily and I heard it play so I'm not too worried. All the tubes are original. I think tubed Pilot stuff rocks.

oh I did get it. I just got it before work so I couldn't play around with it. It is really sweet. I was going to fix it up for my dad for father's day but I got shot down by my mother. Turns out it weighs like 200lbs and "HE DOESN'T NEED IT." So I guess I'll be enjoying it after a recap for myself.

since he can't have it, I opened it up and he came over and took a look. he thinks its the coolest thing. the wood console is so solid and nice. we started working on the amp together, cleaning it up and trying to get the FM unstuck. so at least we get some joy together with it.
Tuning capacitor seized up or something? Try a little wd40 or similar penetrating lube on the bearings to loosen the old grease up. Once its moving, use some electronics solvent to wash that old grease out, and out a drop or two of regular old motor oil on the bearings. It should work smoothly then. I also use a drop of oil on any pulleys the tuning string passes through, and on the tuning knob shaft itself. If needed, a very light application of white lithium grease where the tuning pointer slides may also smooth things out.
