Recommendations for replacement subwoofer amp, plate or external?

Hi,

I am trying to replace a dead plate amp on an NHT Ten, nominally rated at 100W. I have narrowed it down to three possibilities based on my budget (~$100) and compatibility (need speaker level input).

Plate amps:
i) Dayton Audio SA100
ii) Yung SD300 300W

External amp:
OSD, SMP100 Mono-Channel Class D Subwoofer Amplifier. Any thoughts on relibility?

Anyone have any experience with these? The Dayton seems to have been around the most with a 5 year warranty. The cut out is ample enough to accommodate either plate amp, but the external amp may be more flexible.

Yung SD300 - build a small box for the amp and keep it seperate from the driver. Less heat and vibration probably means a longer life.

Depends on what it will be connected to. The plate amp will have a built in low pass filter, and a phase switch if you need those. If connecting it to an AVR low frequency affect output you might be better off with a power amp.

These are my thoughts also. I'm going to be building a small powered sub and plan on putting the plate amp in a small well ventilated box separate from the sub box. I figure less heat and vibration will help the amp last longer.
 
This will be connected to a vintage Philips 7851 to provide the low end for a pair of bookshelf speakers. So low pass and phase adjustment are a requirement. Also, this is for music and not HT.

Partsexpress had an openbox Dayton SA100 for the price of the SA70. So that clinched it for me. With the 5 yr warranty I'll take a chance. The advice for a separate box is great. I'll see if I can make that happen. Thank you!

I have two of the same plate amps on stand by lol.
 
Ok maybe I'm ignorant, if so please excuse me.
The Goodwill is full of subs like this for $50 and under you might even find some on CL if they are not a goodwill flippers.

Why would you want to duck tape this together spending $100 to do it let alone the time?

Well first of all, it's not going to be duck taped. I don't take The Red Green Show seriously. Secondly, I want something that will last at least a couple of years, may be more, with the least bit of maintenance - not a given with goodwill finds. The price on even non functioning boxes in my area is close to $40 sometimes. The SDA 100 will fit the NHT box just fine and has a 5 year warranty. Anyway, I got the box and speaker for free and the amp for $76.
