Recommended speakers for a Pioneer SX-1010

I would say any nice sounding speaker with a 90 db or higher sensitivity rating a 1 meter. The AR can't handle the power of a 1010 so be careful. Even and AR-3 or 3a could be over driven by a 1010. I would be looking for older and larger Boston and ADS speakers. As Snell is no longer made you might find some of them or Infinity speakers that would work for you. You might have to touch up the enclosures finishes, but as long as the drivers and crossovers are OK that is how you can save money. Buying directly from a previous owner can save you lots of money. I found a pair of Bozak low boy 4005 Symphony speakers for $450.00 a few yeas ago, which was quite a bargain.

I have a SX-1010. I have tried it with Klipsch Cornwalls, Wharfedale Evo 4.2’s, Dynaco A-25’s and some home built Overnight Sensations.

Within your budget the Dynaco’s work and sound pretty good through the Pioneer. They are not my favorite for certain types of music but they are pretty forgiving on placement and do most things well enough.
