Recommends for stylus for Shure M55 cartridge

Thanks Empireman. I did see that yesterday; too rich for my blood. The N55E I have in my cart now is a NOS that I only just swapped in, and I have the aforementioned 759-D7 and 759-DE (both genuine Shure) for backup. That should last me for awhile.

The suspension system is an important aspect of a stylus assembly. Pfanstiehl and EVG have the same design as each other but differ from the Shure originals and JICO which are more refined.



Of the few times I've encountered sibilance, it was due to either too low tracking force or to a mismatch of stylus to tone-arm.



The Shure 3X stylus tracks between 2.5 and 3.5 grams so is better suited to medium mass tone-arms. The M75ED with a N75ED stylus should track between .75 and 1.5 grams which should be used in low mass tone-arms with low friction bearings.

If your tone-arm likes the 3X stylus, then I would suggest a N75EJ stylus for the M75ED cartridge body

I have the card the 3x came on and it says 2-4 grams, sounds good at 2.5. I also bought a 75ej that sounds good at 2. I modded a generic n97lt, it sounds good at 1.25. There are 2 RS stylus claiming to be identical to n75ed but are they nude, do you know? Jico @$40 are not but are these nos ratshack @ $60 really n75ed in sheeps clothing. Meanwhile, nos n75ej are going for $160(?) NOS n75ec are availablefor $40 (2-4gr) NOS n75b are suddenly sold out everywhere. 6 days to payday..ill probably blow a tire (they are drawn to invisible chunks of steel, 2 this year.) Man, im long winded. I need to get out more.

Hi, Shure-heads... I have a stylus ID question for you. Has anyone ever seen a 44/55 stylus like the one pictured, with a white grip and yellow lettering? Looks like an old one...maybe 1960s.

[Edit/comment: sorry for the low-res image. It was about the best balance I could find between close-up and in-focus. By the way, this stylus sounds great, though I'm not sure what that might mean about its shape. I don't have the equipment to take microscopic diamond photos...]
