All the stores were packed in Austin today. I hit 7 stores and spent more than I should have. Lots of vinyl buying going on, and a very diverse group of customers, some buying vinyl for the first time in decades. It was a very cool day, I wish I could have hit all the stores (some had 20% off used CDs and vinyl) but my wallet and stomach were empty (I shopped from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.) so I called it a day, had some good Tex-Mex and beer and came home and crashed out. Now I am up going through my scores...it's gonna be a good Sunday!!!
I went over to Bullseye on the east side of Milwaukee and bought some used catalog CD's to fill holes in my Moody Blues, Wilco, and Neil Young collections.
I've had good luck with the Moody Blues CD "remaster" series in the past.
I called Exclusive Company about the new My Morning Jacket EP, they were all sold out (CD version). I thought it was supposed to be BOTH CD/Vinyl, they said they had 1 vinyl left. I passed. Anyone know the true story on this one?

The MMJ EP was released on CD and on in a 2x10"/CD package. The performances were culled from an Ear Xtacy in-store and last year's performance on the Louisville waterfront.
In addition to that, I picked up an Iron & Wine RSD-exclusive live album and 7" records from Vetiver, Akron/Family, Magnolia Electric Co., and a spilit 7" from The Flaming Lips and The Black Keys.
In addition to these cool exclusives, I got a couple of full length LP RSD samplers and a fistful of CD samplers.
I was one of the first in line at Gem City Records in Dayton where they didn't get a lot of exclusives in. It was a crazy-mad rush at the door! Things were equally hoppin' at Shake It Records in Cincy. I got all the RSD goodies I wanted with the exception of the Beck/Sonic Youth split and the Neil Young Sugar Mountain LP, which was priced at $62.

I went to 2 stores yesterday spent a ton of $$$$$ i was just bummed at my stores for lack of vinyl , they had maybe 1 copy (if that) of most stuff which was gone in the 1st five minutes , people were grabbing stacks !
I wanted Miles davis - bitches brew neither store even stocked it to begin with :thumbsdn: they had 1 store that had it i asked them to call & hold it , that store said some guy was walking sround the store with the 1 copy :sigh:
I went to barnes & noble & bought it for $2 cheaper , it's on sale for $22 , getting sick of my local not store stocking stuff .
But each store had 9 million copies of the Radiohead vinyl no one was buying .
Only 45 i got was the "slayer" one , it was cool on Red vinyl , most of the 45's were $7-$8 a little pricey for me , for 2 singles i could get a full album ....i wanted the Depeche mode , but someone grabbed them all & i was there 2 minutes after opening ........... "Lamb of god" did a signing at 1 of the stores i went to , i bought some Vinyl & got it signed ............all in all nice to see people out Buying music

What really sucks is most of the exclusive 45s released on Sat. were on ebay that night for up to $35. To tell you the truth, after listening to the Beck/Sonic Youth, I kinda didn't blame them. I think most of these were just hype, but I ended up picking up a few things. It was funny to see tons of those Radiohead EPs sitting there for $12. What a bunch of crap, for that amount all you get is some 3-4 song EP with a shitty CD insert glued to the front. At $5 a piece I might have bought a few of them.
I mainly went shopping to get discounts on used stuff, which I did and am enjoying them now. So far I have only been disappointed with one new LP I got, Antony and the Johnsons, side 1 was very good with little to no surface noise but side 2 is unlistenable with lots of loud pops and most of it sounded really "fuzzy" I cleaned it twice and even cleaned my stylus which looked just fine. I dropped it on side one and confirmed that it was still good. I am just so disgusted with the quality control on new pressings, it forces me to get damn CDs.

Yeh , i noticed that last night as well , all those 45's were on Ebay , it seems sellers went in & bought up what a lot of stores had 1st thing when they opened .
Maybe they should have limited only 1 per customer or something .

I didn't notice anyone doing that here in Austin, but certain titles were gone instantly at some stores. The Leonard Cohen and Springsteen notably. Anyway, I think most of it is hype anyway, it's not like these are the best songs those artists have ever made, most were just live versions for collector geeks...like me 
I was glad to see so many people in all the stores, I even went back to one store today with my wife to pick up something else and it was still pretty busy. Maybe if most businesses can do this kind of thing we will have this recession licked.
