Rectifier Tube Question

That can over-voltage many of the caps and other components if the circuit wasn't designed for full B+ everywhere at power-on. I realize you know this, but it should probably be stated again to avoid misleading anyone about the benefits of SS rectifiers.

Jack

I use a Weber SS rectifier in y ST120 amp. It also has the delay circuit that Bob sells with his kit. So far so good. Only problem I have had with the amp is one GL Kt88 shorting out and a TS Kt120 shorting because of a small piece of metal inside the tube coming loose and shorting it.

except a pair of 1N4007 and a resistor

I learned to use (4) 1N4007s (2 in series for ea. leg) starting in 1977 for increased PIV reliability, after a rectifier shorted on me shortly after my first SS rect. conversion to a Dynaco ST-70.
Of the scores of SS conversions to "music reproducing" tube amplifiers since, I`ve never had any SS rectifier failures since.

I always purchased a 100 count 1N4007 rectifiers for bulk price (.07 per) considerations, so never thought to upgrade to higher PIV SS rectifiers, when it came time to reorder, as it was yrs, and yrs. between ordering !
