Replacement would definitely guarantee a solution if that is the reason for the problem. I say that as I haven't had much luck deoxiting the rectilinears, they still have dead spots and spots where they crackle. I think those are sealed pots, plus they are sealed by the speaker enclosure itself, so I'm thinking heat might be the issue as to how those pots begin to die, and not contamination in the traditional sense.

Rectilinear did not use Bogen speakers in these earlier models (III, X, Xa, XI, XII, but maybe not other a,b variants).The tweeters were the Peerless, mide Phillips, and woofers varied a bit but mostly CTI or earlier Jansen.

Well I guess they did use they did use Bogen, and that's news to us. I just bought 4 XII's, one with a bad woofer. I do not know if this is an original one, but I have a pic of the removed one. This may add some more confusing info.

BTW -- The term scrim has two separate meanings in terms of fabric. In each case, it refers to woven material, one a finely woven lightweight fabric widely used in theatre, the other a heavy, coarse woven material used for reinforcement in both building and canvasmaking.

IF 1056 is the speaker code it's a fisher,doubt original if that's the case.

I see it, RR's own part number. I couldn't figure out which number to use in the mfgr code list.
Mine is 1056 and the one in the link is 1086.

On the AK link Ghonk supplied - post from rescue on Oct 18, 2010 shows a mark W113 and code 1086. He found them in a pair of Rectilinear XII's, but looking at pics he supplied it is obvious the woofers in his units do not match. Rereading this thread, it shows the 1086 was replaced with a 1056.

EIA code of 589 indicates Bogen, which is kind of surprising.

Whaddya know, I'll be durned. The two woofers for replacing the blown one in my new XII sets are both Bogen (589). More support for the XIIs also using Bogen as well as CTI and Fisher (1056).The 589's have the W-11-3 instead if W-11-2 on the 1056 marked one Wonder if this is good news? The XIIs woofers are screwed in, not siliconed and screwed. So I could replace both of them for matching with no trouble. Now I can,or will have (OCD cutting in) to compare the two sets, in time.
