Refinishing accent wood on Jensen era Advents

Any tips or tricks for refinishing Jensen era Advents with the pecan wood accents?

I found a pretty beat up pair of Advent Maestro II speakers cheap. I'm knee deep in restoring this and figuring might as well go all the way. I already refoamed woofer, stripped foam off front baffle and recapped crossover. The finish on the tops are pretty beat. I was thinking of stripping them and am wondering if there is a suggested stain/finish to keep the color period appropriate: tung oil and poly or pecan colored minwax?

RoyC was telling me he had a heck of a time trying to restore the tops of one of these. Something they did to the wood made it very troublesome. You should send him a private message and ask him about it.
