Refurbed KLH Model 30 speakers sound "harsh"

Good on you for going full send. You must really dig these speakers. Have you experimented with fill amount, type, or adding bracing yet?

Even back in the day they were designed and built to a price point. Once you mod'd the xovers you sort of opened up the world of modification and experimentation.

It's not that I think they're that *great*, just a good opportunity to learn some more stuff on the cheap. I figured some of this may be useful to others that may want a little more "sparkle" from their Model Seventeens, or even Sixes, when in the "DECREASE" mode by just moving one lead on a capacitor. Like I typed earlier, I wasn't a big fan of what I'd heard from KLH in the early 70s when I worked in a store that sold them but these really don't sound that bad to me now with the minor changes. Things usually don't get turned up too loud around here so I don't know how they'd hold up to RockNRoll treatment. Haven't tried changing fill or doing any real carpentry ... Thanks for the response!
