Regluing components after replacement?

I have replaced two power transistors per a service bulletin on my Yamaha CR2020. They reside on board, with small heatsinks. When the receiver was manufactured, they used a glue to hold the heatsinks to the board. I could leave them as is, with only the transistor leads supporting the assembly, but perhaps I should glue them back in place?

What adhesive\glue is suggested?

What risks do I take leaving them as is? It's not like the unit will be subject to constant vibration or other conditions that would risk breaking the leads.

It's glue to support against vibration during shipping. Not needed now.

Thanks man-I am ready to slide it into the case and swap it into my rig for long term testing!

I also reasoned, that having a bit of a gap between the board and the sinks, might aid air flow-or at least I was trying to justify me skipping a step, out of laziness:rolleyes:

Or to hold in place during assembly. Agreed, that they are not needed if the unit is stationary. However, I’ve used small amounts of hot glue as strain relief on components that seemed vulnerable, or if travel is likely. It’s never pretty, but it is non-conductive, chemically stable, fast set, and easy to remove.

I was also thinking for assembly but it probably helps in shipping too.

I've had not great results with hot glue. Never causes any problems but it rarely seems to actually stick to anything. Usually just cracks loose from one side or the other and you end up with a loose part with a glob of hot glue floating around. Only thing I've had decent luck with it for is coating the back side of small DIY circuit boards as insulation. It keys into the open holes and stays fairly well, but can still be removed with minor effort. It doesn't stick to anything smooth and flat, which is basically chassis or any caps big enough that I'd want to glue to a chassis or circuit board.
