Removing clear tape from Marantz faceplate

I have a Marantz faceplate with Scotch clear tape on it. I'm looking for suggestions on removal.



Window cleaners hate the stuff, but at least they can scrape it off with a razor. I carefully scratched at it with my thumbnail but it does not budge. I use WD40 to deep clean faceplates that will not come clean with a mild detergent. But WD40 is no match for clear tape.

My go-to solvent is acetone but I've not ever used it on a faceplate...need to test to see if it takes off the silkscreened letters. I did carefully dab a little on the tape and some tape chipped off with my thumbnail, with no damage to the finish.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. I have plenty of faceplates I can test them on.

Looks old and dry. Maybe heat it up with a hair dryer and try to peel it with your nail or a credit card. Goo Gone will get rid of dried glue residue.

Maybe even a heat gun, I used one to take 30 year old pin striping off a car, I can't see how old tape would be any more difficult than that.

A tablespoon of distilled white vinegar with a drop of dish soap softened the tape. It took about twenty minutes of periodically applying more and scrubbing with a toothbrush. Finally I was able to scrape it off with a credit card (thanks for the suggestion @Bill S).

Randy, next time try Goo Gone. It's a snap, then wash with warm water and dish soap.

Goo-Gone. Let it soak. Plus I use plastic "razor" scrapers. Yes, just like a steel razor, but are non-marring plastic "blades" instead. Usually if you get one edge of the tape to lift, the Goo-Gone will get under it and soften the adhesive.
Of course stay away from any silkscreen/lettering no matter what.

I find whatever I use, it needs to sit\soak for an hour or two.
Then black car wax for the win.

Naptha lighter fluid works really well for removing adhesive, too.
