Replace MX110 and pair a modern preamp with an MC240?

Altec Model Nineteens are the first speakers I've been able to say I really love at below conversation-level volume, on the MC240.

Most of my other speakers seem to drop something at low volume that makes the music so ... musical? If you choose the Cornwalls I hope that your experience is the same.
