A few years ago, I purchased a pair of CDM7 SE speakers at an estate sale, in very good condition. The small footprint tower format suits my main listening area well, and I really took a shine to the speakers, augmented with a powered sub.
Fast forward, I substituted a pair of KEF 103/3 speakers on stands with sentimental value in place of the B&W's in the upstairs listening space. Unfortunately, while stored in the basement, a plumbing leak damaged the cabinets, discoloring the veneer and swelling the glue joints at the base. I was inconsolable for 24 hours, until I contacted my home insurance company.
My insurance company has a 'comparable new replacement' policy. I submitted the current B&W 603 S3 model as a comparable modern replacement. They credited me $2300 toward the purchase of these speakers, once I submit receipts for the replacements.
Are there any other models I should consider before purchasing the 603 S3 speakers? I've never heard them, but if their history is any guide, they probably are are amazing. Maybe I have a thing for Brit speakers, but I found the KEF's and the B&W speakers to really hit the spot. I was sold on the KEF's after listening to recordings of female vocalists, and the CDM7's seem to carry that tradition. Searching the forum for opinions on the 603's was a mixed bag, some criticized the tweets as 'overly bright'. My musical tastes range from bluegrass, blues, jazz to prog rock, I have several 60+ WPC receivers and amps on hand, including a DC300 if I need to go big.
