Replacing turntable in Morse Electrophonic

image.jpeg I need pointers on what I can replace the existing turntable in my Morse Electrophonic cabinet with. I have no knowledge at all about these components. It was given to me for Christmas by my grandmother whom said it was my mom's 16th birthday present. So eventhough I know this is the lower end of cabinets, I would still like to salvage it. But I really want a working turntable in it. The existing one is warped and the lever will not raise.

That model used a BSR record changer. Look for a model with a metal platter, counterweight on the rear, anti-skating, and can take a 1/2" mount cartridge. Lots of BSR changers out there, they were very popular and common.
 
Good suggestion, though that gem of a stereo will still need a ceramic cartridge. The Electrophonic stuff I recall from the early 70s had Garrard and flip-over styli. Whatever fits and works. Oh, many of these were wired to shut the amplifier whan the record ends. This might need to be considered during hook-up.
No matter what the situation, this was your mom's, and we understand its importance to you. So any help we can supply, just ask.

Yes, and even though a Ceramic will be needed, the model I suggest will have cartridge options if need be. And be maintainable and a little bit better than the original. Not to mention a direct drop in fit. No plastic platter warping issues.
 
Can you provide a picture of the changer so we'll know what we're working with? The ones I remember were BSR like Kent said but if this is a Garrard as NoTransistors said then we'll have to go from there.

And also, Kent types faster than I do.......
 
My first stereo was a Bogen. Many of my friends had Electrophonic or stuff comparable to it. If Kent says 'BSR', I'll bet he is correct, as usual.
I need to peel the rest of the shrimp, and check on the food in the oven. See you next year.

I just gave away a Garrard Synchrolab-65 to another AK member that likely would have fit this.

You do need to keep us updated on bringing this thing back to life, and lots of pictures!

How about this. Get a better BSR with a magnetic cart. Sold many 310 changers. Then get pick up a cheap preamp from Vintageelectronics for $30. Wire into the Electronphonic ( jeez it's been a long time since I heard this brand name). With this you have less chance wrecking records! The early 310 had Shure M44s before BSR bought ADC. Even with this upgrade it won't be the best sounding system around. Good luck. Hey, a project is a project!
