Reproduction Wood Cases

I've seen that the fellow doing Marantz rebuilds is selling reproduction cases for the 22XX line. Anybody bought one and has an opinion?

I also remember an AKer going custom wood case work. Who was that?

That would be Dan, at mcintoshcabinets.com His banner is at the bottom of ant AK page, immediately above the Zebra Cables banner.

I have seen more than one example of his work, and visited his shop. He has skills, to be sure, but also an amazing inventory of exotic and beautiful veneers. If I were looking for a wood case for a Marantz, his number would be my first call.

I was looking at the cases at mcintoshcabinets.com and noticed the front looks different then the cases I see on e-bay like the WC-22. They look really nice but are not the correct case that would have come with my 2275 correct?

WC-1 or 2 won't fit the 2285B. If you want an 'original' case, Dan can tell you whether he can replicate the front moldings. His craftsmanship is first-rate.

Sorry, wrong thread, but it won't fit the 2275, for the same reason.

Scroll down, which I failed to do, the first time, and you'll see the 22xx series of cabinets. If I were ordering one, having seen Dan's stock of veneers, I would get an exotic wood. He has some stunners. The cabinet I picked up, last time, was for a different piece, and truly a thing of beauty. Corners like razors, and the wood had such character in colour and grain. It was for the Stax pre, that AK sold. Here is the thread

The pictures don't do justice to the veneer. That was a custom piece, and fit beautifully. I am sure Dan's model for the 22xx series would fit equally well. You can see from the back view that the construction is sturdy, cabinet-grade plywood.

Wow that Stax is beautiful and so is the cab. I just talk to Dan on the phone and I'm going to get me one of those cabs for my 2275. Well worth the price. I just can't decide on a full top or screen. What do you guys think looks better?

Hi Guys, For the Marantz 22XX and other series receivers, I build the Marantz cabinet in the style of the WC-1 (with 45 degree right & left blocks), this is also recessed about 3/4 inch so the knobs are flush with the front. It is a nice classic style, and yes the WC-1 style is sized perfectly for any of the receivers. I am not going for the original reproduction look, but making a cabinet that is a very attractive alternative. It can be with screen or without. Most of the guys with lower power Marantz receivers prefer without the screen, and I always recommend a screen for any of the higher power ones or if the person is going to play loud or have larger speakers. Hope this Helps.

Thanks Dan,nice job on the cab. I probably should have had you put the finish on. You have the experience and it would have even looked better but you workman ship is excellent.

There's a guy on Ebay selling some. Good quality but he doesn't do exotic woods. The exotics take away from the receiver to me. His prices are better but don't expect any deals. He;s real tight. I spent hours getting him pictures and measurements so he can offer the 22 for a 2226B (same size different foot placement)and he still wouldn't cut me a deal. I won't buy anything from him again but I can give you his info when I get home if you want it.:thumbsdn: :thmbsp:
