Restored Dual 1219 squels and hums

Hi guys

I just got my turntable up and running, but there is a problem, two actually. The first problem, is a low hum like a grounding issue, except it should be grounded properly, I kinda blame the hum on the cheap RIAA amp and cheap RCA cables. The second problem is that the turntable randomly put out a high squeal, kinda like it is screaming. I have a Dual 1219 I restored myself, Ortofon OM5 E, and a PP400 Behringer RIAA Amp.

Is that an acoustic/mechanical noise coming directly off the turntable or a scream through the speakers?

I do not know it´s origin. How do I determine that?

????????? Surely it isn't difficult to tell if the sound is coming out of the speakers or from somewhere else?

It comes out the speakers

A safe bet is connection issues somewhere, most likely the connections between the headshell and the arm.

So I should try to rewire the tonearm?

Sounds like a bad capacitor somewhere to me . . .

The squeal only happens when the RIAA amp is the source, so the only capacitors must be in that?

Search AK for cleaning contacts for Dual headshells. Also make sure the connections are good on the cartridge wires.

Just cleaned the contacts, and the connections seems good. No improvement
