I came across a magnivox 142aa and a 142cc. Does someone know the basic steps to get these amps working outside their original consoles? There is an input connector to which the original console would have connected and through which switches and pots would have been connected. Does someone have a high level schematic or pin-out that shows what needs to be hooked up to the input connector to make the amps function? Perhaps a pot for volume control etc?

I don't have the schematic handy but a web search should bring it up. But, getting to your point , if the molex connector took the signal from the radio/preamp into the amp, then you simply need to replace it with your choice of rca input jacks. That would be 2 connectors for L and R channels. You will need to drill holes to accept the size of the insulators. It is best to put the jacks close to the input tube to minimize the pick up of emi/rfi by the wire going into the grid or grid stopper resistor. You might also need a grid to ground resistor. If you don't have a preamp to handle the inputs a variable resistor can be used from the input to one leg with the wiper to the grid and the other leg grounded. That is basically how you would wire the input.
Most rebuilders will also install some speaker binding posts to connect speaker wires. Also an on/off switch in line with a fuse.
 
Hi and welcome! Can you post any pics? I don't have access to a lot of Magnavox schematics and am still trying to remember model numbers.

Without a schematic, I or someone here can show you via pictures what you would need to jump to get the amps to power up without their original turntables or tuners. We can also show you which are the L & R inputs if you are not quite sure.

Short and sweet of it though, on the 9 pin tuner power socket connector, jump pin 5 to pin 7

On the speaker plug, pin 3 and pin 5 go to a 4 ohm speaker

Input is through the RCA jack on the amp.

Usual warnings about old gear needing to be brought up slowly, caps changed, and general risk of fire, electrocution and mayhem apply.
