Revox B 795

Resurrecting this ancient thread to again thank all of those wonderful AK members who got my B795 running. You know who you are.

I'm still loving it. Thanks from the bottom of my heart.

Revox B795 + B&O MMC2

Have just read all the way through this thread fascinating and very helpful.

I have got a spare B&O MMC2 cartridge. Does anyone know if this would be suitable for use in the Revox?

Obviously it would need the 1/2" adapter.

The current cartridge in the Revox is a Shure V15 IV.

Regards
John

It'd probably work, but I'd go P-mount instead and pass the MMC-2 onto a Beogram user.

Thanks but I already have a Beogram 8002 with an MMC2 cartridge installed, I seem to recall that there is a P-mount available for the MMC2.

Me too. Thanks to all that helped me in this thread to get my B795 up and running. It is a wonderful TT!

Hi everyone. Back when they were shiny and new I bought I B795, which I gifted to my dad when I bought an Oracle Delphi. Fast forward, no Delphi, but I now have the 795 back. To my amazement it runs perfectly. I'll recap all the electroylytics and probably order all the tantalum caps.

I had an idea for the community, since it seems the cartridge alignment tool is very hard to find. If someone who owns one is willing, we'll generate a 3D printed model for it and make it available on Shapeways for anyone to print and order. The parts will be available with no markup from us, just at the Shapeways cost.

Anyone willing to loan the part to us to model?

EDIT: P.S. This is Dan from MrSpeakers, we make headphones, in case anyone is wondering who we are and why you should trust us to send your gauge to!

Welcome to AK! That would be a great resource. I've been trying to buy one of those kits for a few months now and I couldn't find even one for sale.

Yeah, it seems ironic that the turntables have outlasted the gauges but there you go. The thing is a tank once you punt the electrolytics out. Even the lightbulb on the tonearm still works.

I'm looking at a high-compliance Sound-Smith Boheme, or replacing the cantilever on my vintage Sumiko Alchemist 3.

So if anyone hat that gauge....

Does your B795 have a composite or cast alloy baseplate?

That's a good question. It still has Nextel all over it, which is in a state of being a bit decomposed but still is on. How does one tell? I missed this in the thread.

Tapping it with a fingernail may tell you.

Check AK thread "Calling all REVOX Linatrack users". Post #43 explains the procedure to deal with deformed composite plates.

You don't need the original to have one made at Shapeways. I took all the measurements for th HK ST-7 cartridge gauge and Les had one made from Shapeways with that. Couple of revisions and now the gauge is available to all. Same process here. Not to mention JM Technical Arts sells a mounting kit for these tables at a reasonable cost.

Sure, if someone can send me/post the dimensions we'll make the model. Obviously you need to have a good micrometer handy to get dimensionally accurate.

I'll check out that kit from JM, too!
