I have fond memories of my beloved CR-8 bookshelf speakers; still don't know why I sold them. Boston also made some fine sounding component car speakers too.

Should've pick up some BA Lynnfield monitors when they were being cleared out by Audio Adviser.

With the brands that Sounds United owns, seems they don't have much to bring joy to the world through sound their tagline.

Oh well, downsizing throughout the audio business is something we can watch.
 
Boston and Polk sell in the same space, so it's not surprising that they'd drop the lesser known brand, although I'm unsure why they would have purchased it in the first place.
 
I have a real cheap set of Boston acoustics I picked up along the way. They sound great, for what they are and what they cost they sound excellent.
 
I personalty never liked there speakers compared to other New England Speaker Company's Like Acoustic Research

Likely with them already owning Polk they really didn't want BA, so once they had time to figure out just what it was they had gotten in the D+M purchase they made a decision to fold BA as being redundant.

I've never had a bad Boston, and I had 6 or 7 — unfortunately none of their "statement" speakers. Still have 2 pair in storage I haven't heard. Their humble A40 was "Budget Speaker of the Year" for 10 consecutive years in Stereo Review, an achievement no matter what you thought of the magazine.
 
I was an A40 owner and fan. Wanted to be an Audiophile when I was young and they were all I could afford at the time (college days). I loved them and they always surprised me with their performance being run by my NAD 7020 receiver and Dual turntable.
 
I need to refoam my T-1000 speakers and start using them again. They are really nice.
 
What is the best line/model either now or in the recent past that Polk has offered in the way of a floor designed speaker?

Lots of things in play here. One, they were part of another "group" buy-out, so got thrown-in as part of the deal. The "brand" did have name recognition, so some value there. Maybe there was "intellectual property" value there--either in patents/designs and/or personnel.

I don't know if the "brand" is going to be gone forever, but merely on "hiatus" until someone else wants to pick it up and run with it.

I am a contractor, and saw an interesting situation in the paint supply/market. Behr paints kind of "hit" the market in a big way out of nowhere--they established a nationwide distribution network in partnership with Homey Depot, and walked into PPG paints division with HUGE offers of money thrown at their best paint chemists. Put them "on the map" and crippled PPG's consumer-grade paints/coatings business for a few years.
