Robbie Robertson ... dead at 80

I broke down a little today for a moment when I heard to be honest, but a voice of calmness came over me and said don't cry because I'm gone, smile and listen to the music. I am trying...

You may be right and you might be wrong
I ain't gonna worry all day long

Snow's gonna come and the frost gonna bite
My old car froze up last night
Ain't no reason to hang your head
I could wake up in the morning dead

80 is a fine run.

Celebrate the man's legacy, don't be sad because the carbon atoms gathered together have decided to drop the curtains and become something else.

As Marcus Aurelius said, the elements composing Robbie aren't the least bit afraid of their eventual transformation, so why should we be?

RIP, you amazing songwriter, you.

“Robbie Robertson was one of my closest friends, a constant in my life and my work. I could always go to him as a confidante. A collaborator. An advisor. I tried to be the same for him. Long before we ever met, his music played a central role in my life—me and millions and millions of other people all over this world. The Band’s music, and Robbie’s own later solo music, seemed to come from the deepest place at the heart of this continent, its traditions and tragedies and joys. It goes without saying that he was a giant, that his effect on the art form was profound and lasting. There’s never enough time with anyone you love. And I loved Robbie.”
Martin Scorsese

He stood out when surrounded by giants. Thank you for the memories and thank you for all the incredible recordings. RIP.
Damn.

Robbie's mother, Dolly left most

The Band was one of the 5 most important groups to come from North America in the rock era. Period. Requiescat In Pace. Now go join, Rick, Levon, & Richard for a jam session.

Everything I've ever seen him in (never live, sadly), he always looked like he was having the time of his life. Just making music with friends, letting it all come naturally, adapting to whatever and whomever he was with. Just all about the music. Don't know if you can get all that just from watching him, but he seemed like a pretty down to earth guy.

...in other words...typically Canadian... ;)

Such a loss. Sadly we're going to see more and more of them. An amazing legacy for sure.
RIP.
Looks like Garth is the last man standing.
