Rock and Roll "Christmas songs" -- Your Favorite

I am not a fan of rock bands covering so-called Christmas classics, but there are a number of songs that -- while not written specifically for the holidays -- still seem appropriate for the season.

My favorite example is "The Winter Song" by Angel.

What's yours? :scratch2:

Hasil Adkins - Blue Christmas/Santa Claus Boogie
Norton 45 1993

Mrs. Spidey Jack bought this for me a few years ago , it rocks!

My favorite one done only by the original group has to be "All I Want For Christmas Is You" by Vince Vance and the Valiants.

Most any blues version of "Merry Christmas, Baby" or "Run, Run, Rudolph" done by a R&R band will always get me to turn up the volume.

So this is Christmas - Lennon

Father Christmas - Kinks

2000 miles - Pretenders

Fairytale of New York - Pogues

Christmas Wrap - Waitresses!

One thing I dread every year is having to listen to those awful so-called Christmas songs that "artists" seem to feel compelled to release each year. I have yet to hear a single one that I liked, and if I hear one that doesn't annoy me, I consider that a fortunate occurrence. Half of them make me want to :puke:

That said, there are MANY more traditional songs and carols that I enjoy. I have a shelf of Christmas compilations from years past that sound wonderful. Beautiful melodies, nice words, very musical arrangements and performances... that is what Christmas music is about.

But it seems that no one wants to write such truly musical stuff any more. The last remotely half-way decent Christmas song added to the pantheon was probably The Little Drummer Boy.

I wish some rock/pop star would come up with a great new Christmas song! I would be delighted and :ntwrthy:  :beerchug: if someone did!

But as they are, rock-n-roll (or pop) Christmas songs? :thumbsdn::uzi::lazer: :whip: :puke:

Just my opinion. YMMV [And I will be keeping an eye/ear on the songs mentioned in this thread, hoping to find that exception....]

Well my all time favorite would have to be a duet that was an absolute shock to me to hear, I remember when it aired and we were all stunned to hear Bing Crosby, and David Bowie harmonizing The Little Drummer Boy. They likely would have been my last choice of combinations, but it still gives me chills when I hear it.
Now that isn't in keeping with the OP's intent for that I will toss into the hat Brian Setzer's "In The Mood" rendition/rework on Dig That Crazy Christmas 2005

Snoopy's Christmas by the Royal Guardsmen and Little St. Nick by the Beach Boys are all-time faves. I also like Hall & Oates' version of Jingle Bell Rock. And of course Oh Holy Night by Eric Cartman. :thmbsp:

There is a song the choir sings in church "Mary Did You know?" Not rockin' but it will rip you to pieces.

"Santa bring My baby Back to Me" sung by Meryl Streep in the movie A Cry In The Dark

Oh yeah!

When I was a kid I thought this was about the coolest Christmas thing ever!

My favorite rock and roll Christmas song (by far) is Christmas [W]rapping by the Waitresses.

Runner-up: Bruce Springsteen's live cover of Santa Claus is Comin' to Town... "You been good, or what?" asks the Boss of his audience :-)
